St. Cloud State soccer on the road to finish NSIC regular season

The St. Cloud State University soccer team (9-4-3, 8-3-2 NSIC) will hit the road for its final two games of the 2019 NSIC regular season this week.
On Wednesday, Nov. 6, the Huskies will play a make-up game at Minnesota State, Moorhead (6-6-4, 4-6-3 NSIC) in Moorhead, Minn. The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at MSUM, and it is a game that was rescheduled from the original date of Oct. 11. Snow in the Moorhead area on Oct. 11 forced the game's move to the new time and date. The Huskies will then complete the NSIC regular season schedule on Friday, Nov. 8 with a 3 p.m. game at Minnesota Duluth (6-9-2, 4-8-2 NSIC) in Duluth, MInn.

ST. CLOUD STATE SOCCER NEWS AND NOTES:
- The Huskies currently own a 9-4-3, 8-3-2 NSIC record (as of Nov. 5) and in fifth place in the NSIC standings with 26 points. Southwest Minnesota State (24) and U-Mary (23) sit in sixth and seventh place respectively, while Bemidji State is in fourth place with 31 points. BSU only has one more game left on its schedule vs. Minnesota Crookston on Nov. 8, while the Huskies still have two more games left to play in the NSIC.
- The top four teams in the final NSIC regular season standings will receive home field advantage in the upcoming NSIC postseason tournament. Minnesota State, Concordia-St. Paul and Augustana have all secured home field advantage in the first round of the tournament. Of note, SCSU would have to win both of its final regular season games and BSU would have to lose against UMC for the Huskies to gain homefield advantage.
- The first round of the NSIC tournament will begin on Nov. 13. The NSIC tournament bracket will be announced after the final regular season games are played on Nov. 8. The first round winners then advance to the NSIC final four on Nov. 15-17 at the site of the highest remaining seeded team.
- Sally Nelson was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week for her stellar play in the Huskies 2-0 victory over Minot State on Nov. 1 and the 1-0 win over U-Mary on Nov. 3. In the game vs. Minot, SCSU outshot their opponents 24-3 and also outshot U-Mary 12-8.
- In the win at Minot State, Claire Shea scored both goals for the Huskies with assists from Monica Majeski on both goals. Shea leads SCSU in scoring with 14 points and six goals in 2019. Majeski has three assists and two goals for the Huskies this fall.
- The GWG on Nov. 3 was posted by rookie Jenna Domiguez vs. U-Mary. She was assisted on the play by Nicole Friis, who leads the Huskies with four assists this year. Dominguez ranks second on the team this fall with four goals and 11 points.
- Zoe Welsh posted a pair of goalie shutouts on Nov. 1 and Nov. 3. She now has six shutouts this season and owns a 0.82 GAA for the Huskies with a 9-4-3 record in the nets. In her career, Welsh has 12 shutouts in just two season played for the Huskies.
- SCSU has outscored its opponents 23-14 in 2019. SCSU set a record for fewest goals allowed in a season in 2009 with 17.
- Last year, SCSU posted a 1-0 OT win over MSUM and a 2-1 OT win over UMD. Both games were played at SCSU. The last time SCSU played at MSUM, the Huskies gained a 3-1 win on Sept. 25, 2016. The last time SCSU played at UMD, the Huskies lost a 1-0 match on Sept. 12, 2017.
- SCSU is 25-0-1 in the all-time series vs. MSUM, which dates back to 1995. SCSU is 7-19-8 in the series vs. UMD, which dates back to 1994.
