The St. Cloud State University soccer team (10-4-3, 9-3-2 NSIC) continued its late season surge with a 3-0 victory at Minnesota State, Moorhead on Nov. 6 in Moorhead, Minn.
This game was originally scheduled for Oct. 11 but snow in the Moorhead area forced the move of the game to Nov. 6 for a midweek game at MSUM.
SCSU opened the contest with a goal by Nicole Friis at 33:53, which was assisted by Kaitlyn Dziubinski, which provided the Huskies with the eventual game winner and a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission.
In the second half, SCSU iced the contest with a goal by Hannah Marion at 81:39 that made it 2-0. The goal was assisted by Clarie Shea. Friis completed her day at MSUM with a penalty kick goal at 85:12 that made the final tally 3-0.
The two goals moved Friis' season totals to four goals, four assists and 12 points in 2019. The goal for Marion was the first of the season for the senior forward, who now has posted 16 goals during her collegiate career at SCSU.
SCSU's defense was close to perfect as the Huskies outshot the Dragons 31-2 in the game. SCSU sophomore keeper Zoe Welsh gained the shutout win with one save. She now owns a 10-4-3 overall record this fall with seven shutouts to her credit.
This marks the first time since 2013 that SCSU has gained 10 wins in a season and the nine league wins are the most for the Huskies since posting nine NSIC victories in 2009 - which is also the most NSIC wins ever posted by the Huskies in a season since joining the league in 2008. Of note, the nine wins is also the most wins in conference play for the Huskies in the history of the program.
SCSU will complete its 2019 season on Friday, Nov. 8 with a 3 p.m. match at NSIC rival Minnesota Duluth.
