St. Cloud State stretches win streak to three with 4-1 victory over Omaha

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (5-6-4, 3-4-0 NCHC) scored its third consecutive NCHC victory with a 4-1 decision over Omaha (6-7-2, 1-5-1 NCHC) on Friday, Dec. 13 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies and Mavericks battled to a scoreless draw through the first period before SCSU broke the deadlock at :57 of the second period with a power play marker by Jack Ahcan. This was his fourth goal of the season and it was assisted by Nick Poehling and Sam Hentges. Of note, Hentges has now scored points in five consecutive games and has penned his name to the scoresheet in all but one game this season. In 2019-20, Hentges has a team leading seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points.
Micah Miller added the eventual game winner at 17:26 of the second period with his breakaway goal, which was assisted by Nolan Walker and Jack Poehling. This was Miller's first goal of the 2019-20 season.
SCSU stretched its lead to a comfortable 3-0 margin at 3:00 of the third period as Nick Poehling continued his recent success with his goal that was assisted by Kevin Fitzgerald and Andrej Trejbal. Nick Poehling now has five goals this season and has posted two goals and three assists in his last two games for SCSU. On the topic of streak, Trejbal has now scored points his last two games for the Huskies.
To cap the evening's scoring for SCSU, Easton Brodzinski scored at 9:24 of the third period with a solo assist credit to Ahcan. The goal was Brodzinski's sixth of the season and it was Ahcan's 11th assist of the year. Ahcan is moving closer to membership in SCSU's 100-point club as he now has 18 goals, 75 assists and 93 points to his credit in four season with the Huskies.
Omaha avoided the shutout with a goal by Martin Sundberg at 19:40 of the third period, which was assisted by Taylor Ward.
In the game, SCSU outshot the Mavs 28-26. SCSU was 1-3 on the power and was a perfect 5-5 on the penalty kill. This was SCSU's third consecutive game with a perfect rating on the penalty kill. In the last three games combined, the Huskies are 10-of-10 on the penalty kill.
David Hrenak earned his fifth win of the season in the game with 25 saves to his credit, while Isaiah Seville had 24 saves and the loss for Omaha.
