St. Cloud State Hockey to Host Puck Drop Breakfast on Sept. 12

Season-opening event will be held 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. CT at the St. Cloud Country Club
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's and Women's Hockey will host their annual Puck Drop Breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the St. Cloud Country Club from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. CT. The event will be hosted by the voice of the Huskies Jim Erickson and will feature a panel headlined by men's head coach Nick Oliver and women's head coach Mira Jalosuo.
St. Cloud State Director of Athletics Holly Schreiner will also be on-hand to make welcoming remarks for the event. SCSU Men's Hockey enters a new era with Oliver hired as the program's fourth head coach of the Division-I era in April. A former Husky captain and the only player/coach on roster for both NCAA Frozen Four berths in program history, Oliver welcomes a roster filled with returners, transfers and freshmen ready to take the ice at the newly renovated Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Included in the group of returners is the forward line of junior Gavyn Thoreson (Andover, Minn.), sophomore Nolan Roed (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and sophomore Noah Urness (Roseau, Minn.), who all scored 18+ points. The line was able to grow together throughout the season, with 39 percent of their production coming in SCSU's final 10 games.
SCSU Women's Hockey returns its two top point producers and top five goal scorers from a young team that made strides in Jalosuo's first season as head coach in 2025-26. The two top returning point scorers - senior forwards Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) and Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) - notched eight goals and 21 assists for 29 points and 16 goals and 10 assists for 26 points respectively. Sauriol's 21 assists were tied for the eighth most all-time in a single season and Sundelin's 16 goals were the most by a Husky since 2022-23. Sophomore forward Maria Mikaelyan (Moscow, Russia) looks to build off her impressive freshman campaign which saw her tally 13 goals and six assists for 19 points while the Huskies also return three 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympians including two-time Olympian redshirt senior Laura Zimmermann (Ringgenberg, Switzerland) who won a bronze medal with Team Switzerland and junior goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland) and junior defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) who both made their Olympic team debuts for Team Finland. SCSU welcomes nine newcomers, including eight freshmen and one transfer, to the 2026-27 team.
