ST. CLOUD, MINN. – Two future St. Cloud State University volleyball student athletes added more hardware to their closets after outstanding senior seasons with their high school teams. Future Huskies Kenzie Foley (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa / Sergeant Bluff-Luton) and Allena Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa / Dowling Catholic) were named to their class' respective All-State teams, the Iowa Girls Coaches Association (IGCA) announced last week.
In addition to earning First Team All-State honors, Foley was named the Class 4A Player of the Year, while Shimon earned All-State Honorable Mention honors for Class 5A. The high school classes in Iowa are similar to Minnesota, meaning the higher the number, the bigger the class.
Foley and Shimon were officially announced as members of the 2020 Huskies volleyball recruit class last week and will join the team in the fall of next year. This past fall, Foley led Sergeant Bluff-Luton to its first ever volleyball state title, earning All-Conference, All-District and now All-State honors along the way. She broke the school records for single match kills, single match aces and career kills during her senior season and was additionally named an IGCA Senior Volleyball All-Star at the conclusion of the season.
Shimon also had a standout senior season with Dowling Catholic, as she too earned All-Conference, All-District and All-State honors in her final season. She eclipsed the 2000 career assist mark as a senior in 2019 and, like Foley, was a 2019 IGCA Senior Volleyball All-Star at the conclusion of the season. During her high school career, Shimon helped the Maroon make five consecutive appearance in the Class 5A Iowa State Tournament.
