Steen named NSIC Elite 18 winner

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The quarterfinal game hasn't started, but the St. Cloud State University women's basketball team already got things off to a hot start. Prior to Saturday evening's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) tournament game against Bemidji State University, Husky junior Kassidy Steen (Cloquet, Minn. / Cloquet) was bestowed with the conference's Elite 18 award, becoming the first women's basketball student-athlete from St. Cloud State to earn the prestigious award.

The NSIC's Elite 18 honor is given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA) participating at the finals site for each of the NSIC's 18 championships. Steen certainly checked all the boxes, as the biomedical studies major holds a perfect 4.00 GPA during her time at St. Cloud State.

Steen has appeared in 20 games for the Huskies this season, primarily coming off the bench as a post player for St. Cloud. In 20 games, she's racked up 138 minutes and scored 35 points while pulling in 31 rebounds.

Steen is the second Husky to earn Elite 18 honors from the NSIC this winter season, as senior wrestler Brett Velasquez earned the same honor in January.
