
SCSU's Patrick Newell signs pro hockey contract with NY Rangers

St. Cloud State University senior forward Patrick Newell has signed a professional hockey contract with the New York Rangers organization. New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced on March 30, that the Rangers agreed to terms with free agent Newell, who's contract will begin at the start of the 2019-20 season.
A Hobey Baker Award top 10 finalist and the NCHC Forward of the Year, Newell played in 39 games for the Huskies this season and registered 21 goals, 26 assists and 47 points. An All-NCHC First Team selection, Newell helped the Huskies to a 30-6-3 overall record and a 19-2-3 NCHC record.  Newell was also selected as the NCHC's Sportsmanship Award winner for 2018-18.
Newell helped SCSU win its second consecutive NCHC regular season championship in 2018-19 and gain the number one overall seed in this year's NCAA men's hockey tournament. In his career, Newell finished with 38 goals, 82 assists and 120 points.
