AVCA Release
LEXINGTON, KY. – With the start of preseason just 27 days away, the St. Cloud State University volleyball team already has something to celebrate. The Huskies earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) prestigious Team Academic Award for the fourth straight season, the organization announced Monday afternoon.
"We are extremely excited to earn this honor for the fourth consecutive year," volleyball head coach Chad Braegelmann said in a recent statement. "Our team worked very hard both in the classroom and on the court, which showed in multiple ways during the season."
St. Cloud State was one of a record 1125 teams across the nation and 141 at the Division II level to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018 season. In order to receive the award, volleyball teams must maintain at least a 3.30 team cumulative grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale during the academic year. It is the largest award offered based on the quantity of schools, players and coaches honors.
In addition to the Huskies, 13 other schools from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) were honored with the AVCA Team Academic Award, including Augustana, Bemidji State, Concordia-St. Paul, MSU-Moorhead, Northern State, SMSU, Minnesota State, Mary, Minnesota-Crookston, Sioux Falls, Upper Iowa, Wayne State and Winona State. Additionally, several of these schools, including St. Cloud State, were recognized for reaching their Dig Pink fundraising goals during the season.
