AVCA Top-25 poll
UPDATE: As of 5:30 p.m., the AVCAÂ announced St. Cloud State is the No. 19 team in the nation, not No. 22.Â
LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY – It's only been two weeks, but the St. Cloud State University volleyball team is already making waves. After a perfect weekend at their home tournament, the Huskies are off to an 8-0 start, their best record to start a season since 1985. On Monday, St. Cloud State was rewarded for its outstanding play, as it was ranked No. 19 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Top-25 poll.
Â
This is the first time the Huskies have been ranked in the AVCA poll since 1997, when they spent one week on the list at the start of the regular season. Since then, St. Cloud State has received votes a handful of times, most recently last week after going 4-0 at the Dixie State Invite in St. George, Utah and last season after upending No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth to open the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) season.
Â
The Huskies already have key wins over ranked opponents on their resume, as they defeated both No. 21 Michigan Tech and No. 14 Wheeling Jesuit in the BW Kelly Inn Huskies Volleyball Classic this weekend. Of course, St. Cloud State's schedule is not about to get any easier. The Huskies will open the NSIC season facing two ranked opponents, as Winona State received 76 votes in the latest AVCA Poll while Upper Iowa moved into the top-25 in the 25th spot.
St. Cloud State was one of eight NSIC teams ranked in the latest top-25 poll, four of which were ranked in the top-10. Two other schools, previously mentioned Winona State and Augustana, received votes in the latest poll.
Â
St. Cloud State will open its conference season at home, as it hosts the RV Warriors at 6 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies will then host No. 25 Upper Iowa at 2 p.m. on Saturday to round out the weekend.
