LEXINGTON, KY. – The St. Cloud State volleyball team continued its climb up the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top-25 poll. After going 1-1 on the road against two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opponents last weekend, the Huskies moved from #15 to #12, tying the team's 1996 ranking.
St. Cloud State put together another strong weekend in NSIC play, as the team swept (RV) Minnesota State 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-14) on Friday to win it's 11th match of the season and 13th consecutive match dating back to 2018. The win tied the program record for best start in program history and is now tied for third all-time in terms of longest win streaks.
While the streak came to an end with the loss to #7 Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday, the Huskies made plenty of history in that match as well. The second set win marked the first time St. Cloud State took a set from the Golden Bears since 1993, and the five set match was the longest to ever occur between the two teams. Additionally, sophomore outside Linsey Rachel (Maple Lake, Minn. / Maple Lake) moved to sixth all time for double-doubles, as she recorded the 26th of her career as a Husky.
The #12 ranking is the highest for St. Cloud State since the 1996 season and is the second-highest ranking the team has ever received. In both 1985 and 1995, the Huskies finished the season ranked #10 in the AVCA poll after trips to the NCAA Tournament and Elite Eight.
St. Cloud State will be in action again this weekend, as the team travels to North Dakota to take on Minot State and Mary. First serve between the Beavers and Huskies is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday, October 4 in Minot, North Dakota.
