Skate with the Huskies set for Feb. 1
The St. Cloud State men's hockey team (8-12-4, 5-9-0 NCHC) will continue its 2019-20 season with games against Miami University (6-14-4, 3-9-2 NCHC) on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1. The game on Jan. 31 will begin at 7:37 p.m. and the game on Feb. 1 will begin at 6:07 p.m. Both games will be played at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.

SKATE WITH THE HUSKIES: SCSU Fans! Make plans now to join the SCSU Huskies on the ice at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center during the Skate with the Huskies open skate on Saturday, Feb. 1 after the SCSU-Miami game. The game gets underway at 6:07 p.m. that night and Skate with the Huskies begins after the game is completed. Skate with the Huskies is free and open to the public. Fans attending the game that night are encouraged to bring their own skates, or you can rent them from the HBNHC pro shop on the night of the game. TOP 20 RESULTS: SCSU is 5-5-1 in games played against top 20 ranked teams this season, which includes a weekend sweep over Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 17-18. SCSU has also gained wins this season over nationally ranked #3 Minnesota State, #11 Northeastern and #19 Northern Michigan and a 3-3 tie against NMU.
WHERE DO WE STACK UP: The Huskies currently sit in sixth place in the NCHC standings this week with a 5-9-0 NCHC record. SCSU has 15 league points, while Miami is in seventh place with 12 league points and a 3-9-2 league record. Omaha is in fifth place with 18 points (5-6-3) and Colorado College is in eighth place with 10 points (3-10-1). UND (14 points/10-2-2), Denver (28 points/7-3-4), UMD (26 points/8-4-2) and Western Michigan (25 points/7-5-2) currently own the top four spots in the league.
NCHC CHAMPS: The Huskies claimed the 2018-19 NCHC championship with a 5-0 win at Omaha on Feb. 23. This marks the third time the Huskies have won the Penrose Cup, which is the most of any team in the NCHC. SCSU also won the NCHC regular season title in 2014, 2018 and 2019.2020 FROZEN FACEOFF TICKETS: All session tickets for the 2020 NCHC Frozen Faceoff go on sale to the public on Friday, Nov. 8. The 2020 Frozen Faceoff will take place on March 20-21 at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul, Minn. All-session ticket packages start at $60 and can be purchased at the Xcel Energy Center Box Office or online at ticketmaster.com beginning on Firday, Nov. 8 at Noon. BLUE LINE PUNCH: Junior Luke Jaycox has continued to impress during his junior campaign. He tallied his fourth goal of the season on Jan. 24 at WMU and now has five points this season. His goal total this season already surpasses his goal output for his first two seasons combined as he had one goal as a rookie and two goals scored as a sophomore. In his career, Jaycox has played in 102 games at SCSU with 7g/6a to his credit. Jaycox also has 35 blocked shots in 2019-20 for the Huskies.
THREE MORE NEEDED: Jack Ahcan, a two time NCHC Defensive Player of the Week this season, now has 97 career points (19g/78a) and is fourth on the Huskies' career points by a defenseman list. SCSU's all-time leader on defense is Jimmy Schuldt, who had 118 points from 2015-19. Ahcan also ranks 16th in the team records with 78 career assists and 36th with 97 points. Ahcan is on the verge of joining SCSU's 100 point club and would become the 34th place (all games played at the DI level) to join the 100 point club. Last year's 100-point club entries were Jimmy Schuldt, Robby Jackson and Patrick Newell. Ahcan added his fifth goal of the season on Jan. 24 vs. WMU. He currently ranks 2nd on the team this winter with 19 points and 14 assists.
FIRST ASSIST: Freshman forward Zach Okabe scored his first collegiate assist with his help on Luke Jaycox' goal in the third period at WMU. Okabe now has 4g/1a in 2019-20.
SUPER SENIOR: Senior forward Jake Wahlin scored his fourth goal of the season on Jan. 25 at WMU. He also has six assists this year for a total of 10 points, which is just two shy of his career season-high of 12 points scored during his freshman campaign. Of note, Wahlin also had a career season-high of six goals in 2016-17. Wahlin has played in all 24 games this season and the Huskies still have 10 regular season game remaining on their schedule.
GOAL LEADER: Junior forward Easton Brodzinski continues to hold the team's goal scoring lead this season with nine in 24 games played. He added his ninth goal at WMU on Jan. 25. He is the team's leading active goal scorer with 39 goals posted for the Huskies in 101 games played. Brodzinski also has 33 assists during his collegiate career.
ON DECK: SCSU will travel to Colorado College on Feb. 7-8 for a pair of NCHC games in Colorado Springs, Colo. The game on Feb. 7 will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network. The Huskies will enjoy a bye week on Feb. 14-15 before bringing their game back to the HBNHC for matches against North Dakota on Feb. 21-22.
SCSU NOTES: Jake Wahlin leads SCSU on the +/- at +6 this season...Jack Ahcan is one goal shy of his career season-high of six goals scored during the 2018-19 season at SCSU.
OPPONENT NOTES: Chris Bergeron is in his first season as head coach at Miami University. He is joined on his staff this season by former SCSU assistant men's coach and head women's hockey coach Eric Rud, who is also in his first season with the Redhawks as an assistant coach...last year, SCSU was 4-0-2 in games played against Miami. The Huskies skated to a pair of tie games at Miami (2-2 and 4-4) on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 2018.
