#11/13 St. Cloud State men's hockey falls 2-1 against WMU

The #11/13 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (3-1-0, 3-1-0 NCHC) suffered its first loss of the 2020-21 season with a 2-1 setback against Western Michigan University (1-3-1, 1-3-1 NCHC) on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at the NCHC pod in Omaha, Neb.
WMU opened the game's scoring at 11:06 of the first period with a goal by Josh Passolt, which included assists from Jason Polin and Aidan Fulup.
The two teams engaged in a defensive battle through the remainder of the first period and through the second period before WMU lit the lamp again with another even strength goal at 2:11 of the third period by Brett Van Os. Â

The Huskies broke the shutout late in the contest with a goal by Nick Perbix at 19:41 of the third period. With the extra attacker on the ice and goalie David Hrenak out of the net, Perbix connected for the tally with a solo assist to Sam Hentges. This was Perbix' second goal of the season.Â
In the contest, SCSU was outshot by the Broncos 32-21. Hrenak was the goalie of record with 30 saves to his credit. On the penalty kill, SCSU was 3-of-3 and is now 15-of-17 on the PK in 2020-21. SCSU was also 0-of-3 on the power play. Easton Brodzinski and Perbix led the Huskies in shots on target with four and three respectively.
The St. Cloud State will continue its season on Saturday, Dec. 12 with a 4:05 p.m. game against #1 North Dakota at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Neb.
