St. Cloud State men's hockey charts shootout win over #1 UND

St. Cloud State University men's hockey played in its third consecutive overtime game and came away with a 3-3 tie against #1 ranked University of North Dakota, which also included an extra league point thanks to a 1-0 edge in the shootout session.
After a thrilling 3x3 overtime session, SCSU's Easton Brodzinski scored on the Huskies' first shootout attempt against UND goalie Peter Thome. On the insuing attempt by UND, SCSU goalie David Hrenak came up with the big stop against UND's Jordan Kawaguchi that provided the winning edge.
In a classic battle between these two longtime college hockey foes, North Dakota gained the upper hand in the first period with the game's first goal at 17:46. Westin Michaud scored the shorthanded goal with assists from Matt Kiersted and Harrison Blaisdel.
The Huskies then charged back in the second period with a goal by Jack Ahcan at 12:54, which included assists from Jack Poehling and Micah Miller. This was Ahcan's seventh goal of the season. Fans can vote once per day for Ahcan in this year's Vote for Hobey campaign!
Jack Poehling then provided SCSU with a 2-1 lead at 15:07 with his goal that was assisted by Nick Poehling and Miller. This was Nick Poehling's 14th assist of the season and it was Miller's 10th assist of 2019-20.
UND regained the lead with a power play marker at 19:09 by Shane Pinto and an even-strength goal at 4:06 by Jacob Bernard-Docker, which made the tally 3-2. The Huskies ended the UND run at 7:07 of the third period with Jack Poehling's second goal (and third point) of the evening. He was assisted on the play by Brodzinski and Nick Poehling. This was Jack Poehling's eighth goal, Brodzinski's 13th assist and Nick Poehling's 15th assist of the season.
In the contest, UND outshot the Huskies 35-30 with Hrenak making 32 saves on the night. On the power play, SCSU was 0-3 and UND was 1-4.
