
SCSU's Haeg signs contract to play hockey in Switzerland

Janna Haeg, a four-year standout on the St. Cloud State University women's hockey team from 2016 to 2020, has signed a pro contract to play hockey in Switzerland for the Thurgau Indien Ladies club in 2020-21.
Haeg will join former SCSU goalie Janine Alder on the Thurgau roster this winter. A resident of Switzerland, Alder played at SCSU from 2016-20 and has been part of Switzerland's women's hockey Olympic teams in 2014 and 2018.
A forward for the Huskies, Haeg is a resident of Lakeville, Minn. and a graduate of Lakeville South H.S. She had four assists for the Huskies in 2019-20 and finished her collegiate career with 10 goals and 13 assists in 133 games. Haeg earned Academic All-WCHA honors and WCHA Scholar-Athlete honors three times during her collegiate career with the Huskies.
She is scheduled to travel to Switzerland at the end of August and will enter the training and game operations of the Thurgau club after the order quarantine.
Alder was 1-2-0 in the nets for the Huskies in 2019-20. In four seasons at SCSU, Alder set team career records with a .931 save rate and a 2.53 goals against average. She served as a team captain for the Huskies in 2019-20.
The Thurgau Indien Ladies club plays in the Swiss Women's League (SWHL A) and the it is located in the city of Kreuzlingen, Switzerland.

Alder and Haeg will join former teammate Abby Thiessen (Red Deer, Alberta) in the pro ranks this year. Thiessen previously signed a one-year contract with Leksands IF in the SDHL for this upcoming season. The SDHL (Swedish Women's Hockey League) is the elite league for women's ice hockey in Sweden.
A team alternate captain in 2019-20, Thiessen played in all 35 games for the Huskies her senior season tallying four goals and nine assists for a 13-point season. Over her career as a Husky, Thiessen appeared in 105 games, scoring 10 goals and collecting 19 assists. This season, Thiessen was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team for the second time in her career.

For them to continue to pursue their hockey experiences overseas is a testament to the purpose and passion that they brought to the Husky jersey every day," SCSU coach Steve Macdonald said. "All three of them had a significant impact as a Husky during their time here at SCSU and we look forward to witnessing them continue their legacy for future generations of Huskies."
