
#6/7 St. Cloud State rallies to claim 4-3 win at #5 UMD

The #6/7 St. Cloud State University rallied in the third period to chart a huge 4-3 victory over #5 Minnesota Duluth on Friday, Jan. 8 at Amsoil Arena in Duluth, Minn. The victory kept SCSU in first place in the NCHC standings with an 8-4-0, 8-4-0 NCHC record with 25 points. UMD falls to 6-4-2, 6-4-2 NCHC.
SCSU opened the game's scoring at 5:33 of the first period with a goal by Jami Krannila, which included assists from Spencer Meier and Veeti Miettinen. This was Kranila's fourth goal of the season and it marked the sixth consecutive game that Miettinen has scored a point for the Huskies.
The Huskies stretched their first period lead to 2-0 with a goal by Chase Brand at 19:12. Nolan Walker charted the solo assist on the play, which was Brand's first goal of the 2020-21 season and sixth goal in his career at SCSU.A goal so nice that they faked out @CangyManMSG!! UMD then took a 3-2 lead at 14:35 with a goal by Nick Swaney. To cap the second period, SCSU knotted the score at 3-3 with a goal by Nolan Walker at 1:01 of the second. Micah Miller posted the solo assist on the goal, which was Walker's second goal of the season.

In the third period, SCSU regained the game's lead with a goal by Kevin Fitzgerald at 2:29. Blueliners Luke Jaycox and Ondrej Trejbal added assists on the play, which was Fitzgerald's fourth goal of the season.
In the game, UMD outshot the Huskies 30-23 but SCSU's David Hrenak made 27 saves in the game to gain his sixth win of the year and his 55th career win.
