Hrenak makes 28 saves, Mavericks get second period power play goal
MANKATO, Minn. – No. 2/1 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (2-1-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) dropped a hard-fought battle to No. 1/2 Minnesota State (3-0-0, 0-0-0 CCHA), 1-0, on Friday night in Mankato, Minn. Both goaltenders played superb, stopping 48 of a combined 49 shots. Senior goalie David Hrenak (Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia) made 28 stops in the game for the Huskies.
 
TURNING POINT
 
The Mavericks were able to find the back of the net on a second period power play where Nathan Smith scored after assists from Julian Napravink and Jake Livingstone. Minnesota State was able to outshoot the Huskies, 14-5 in the game's second period.

The second game of the weekend series between the Huskies and the Mavericks will take place tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:07 p.m. CT at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.

- Four Huskies lead the team with three shots, including junior forward Kyler Kupka (Camrose, Alberta), who nearly scored on a third period attempt.
- St. Cloud State is now 57-61-13 all-time against Minnesota State, and 10-7-3 in Mankato since 1987-88 when the Huskies moved to D-I.
- The Huskies won 27 of 47 faceoffs in the game, with Fitzgerald and senior forward Nolan Walker (Anchorage, Alaska) each winning more than 50 percent of their faceoffs at 13-of-18 and 9-of-16, respectively.
