Women’s Trio qualifies for NCAA Championships in Diving events

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State Swim & Dive team continued its season with an impressive performance at the Cows, Colleges and Contentment Classic in Northfield, Minn., on Saturday. The Huskies finished first in 22 of 30 events competed, including 14 individual swimming events (seven men and seven women).

For the women, three divers: graduate student Annaliesa Anderson (West Bend, Wis.), graduate student Madison Brinkman (Grey Eagle, Minn.) and junior Meredith Matchinsky (St. Cloud, Minn.) all qualified for the NCAA Championships with their performances on the diving board.

For the men, sophomore Raf Hendriks (Berg en Terblijt, Netherlands), sophomore Tjeerd Van Stein (Sasseenheim, Netherlands) and junior Abe Townley (White Bear Lake, Minn.) each finished first in four events, two individual and two relays.

TOP HUSKIES

Brinkman qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, finishing first in the 1-meter with a score of 427.05 and second in the 3-meter with a score of 442.00.
Anderson earned a berth to the NCAA Championships in the 1-meter with a second-place finish at 402.50 points, while Matchinsky finished first in the 3-meter with a score of 461.15 to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Hendriks continued his incredible start to the season first place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (21.47) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:35.71).
Van Stein recorded first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (53.19) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.15).
Townley earned first-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (52.35) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.49).
Hendriks Van Stein and Townley all also swam legs on the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay teams that finished first with times of 1:23.93 and 1:34.24, respectively.

Next, the Huskies will compete in Coyote Extravaganza, hosted by South Dakota on Nov. 5-6 at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. Friday's session is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. CT, while Saturday is scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m. CT.
