DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University men's basketball team dropped its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opener Tuesday evening, falling to Minnesota-Duluth 86-69. The Huskies are now 2-3 overall with a 0-1 mark in NSIC play.
GAME SUMMARY
As always, it was a dogfight between St. Cloud State and Minnesota-Duluth, as neither team led by more than four points through the majority of the first half. A five minute scoring slump for the Huskies, though, meant the Bulldogs entered the second half holding a 39-27 lead. Ryan Bagley (Pocatello, Idaho / Burley) led the scoring charge for St. Cloud State, scoring 11 points in the opening 20 minutes of play. Josh Tomasi (Melbourne, Australia / Box Hill) also played a big role for the Huskies, scoring 10 points before getting into foul trouble.
St. Cloud State was forced to play much of the second half without Tomasi, as he was called for his fourth foul six minutes into the half. Without the big man inside, the Huskies rebounding struggles continued in the second half, as they were outrebounded in the game. St. Cloud State was also forced to take long shots from beyond the arc in hopes of closing the gap. It did not work, as the Huskies fell in Duluth, Minnesota by a final score of 86-69.
