COLD SPRING, MINN. - The St. Cloud State University athletics department is well-known for its commitment to excellence, both in competition and the community. On Wednesday, the Huskies kicked off the 2021-22 year in Cold Spring, Minnesota by participating in a field day with ROCORI High School and Elementary School, their first community engagement since the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
"ROCORI was privileged to have St. Cloud State University athletes, coaches and administration visit the students in our Summer Success program Wednesday" commented Matt Bueckers, Program Coordinator for the ROCORI School District and former Husky. "Summer Success is a program that focuses on our students' academic and social emotional learning. This year we have hosted roughly 325 ROCORI students in Kindergarten – fifth grade over six weeks of summer. It was great to see so many St. Cloud State athletes and coaches step up to provide an afternoon of fun and games for the students in the ROCORI Community."
Over 50 members for the St. Cloud State athletics department, including coaches, student-athletes, staff members, and Blizzard joined Bueckers at ROCORI for a fun-filled day of activities with students from the school's Summer Success program. Activities included kickball, chalk drawings and soccer for students in kindergarten and first grade, while second through fifth graders also participated in basketball and baseball/softball competitions.Â
"We believe it's vital for our coaches, staff and student athletes to connect, and engage with community members and kids in Central Minnesota," said Bruce Thompson, Association Athletics Director of External Operations at St. Cloud State. "We appreciate the ROCORI community having us out, and hopefully created life long St. Cloud State Huskies fans."
