In addition to their season opener against St. Thomas on October 3, the Huskies will host Minnesota (Oct. 16), Wisconsin (Oct. 22-23) and Bemidji State (Jan. 1) in nonconference play and will host Nebraska-Omaha (Nov. 12-13), North Dakota (Dec. 3-4), Minnesota Duluth (Jan. 7-8), Miami (Jan. 21-22), Western Michigan (Feb. 4-5) and Colorado College (Feb. 25-26) in National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) play. The Huskies will host the Minnesota Gophers for Homecoming on Oct. 15, where a pregame fan fest and a postgame concert will take place around the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
Head Coach Brett Larson and the Huskies put together a historic season in 2020-21, making its first ever appearance in the NCAA Division I men's ice hockey national championship game in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 2020-21, the Huskies posted a 20-11-0 overall record with a 15-9-0 conference record to finish second in the always rugged National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). From there, St. Cloud State advanced to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship game and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Northeast Regional, where the team beat Boston University and Boston College for the championship to advance to the Frozen Four for just the second time in program history. The Huskies played in the Division I National Championship game for the first time in school history and finished as the runner-up.
After a strong season on the ice in 2020-21, the women's hockey team will look to continue to develop in Coach Steve MacDonald's third season at the helm of the Huskies. St. Cloud State will open the season with a two game series against Lindenwood, its lone home nonconference series of the season. In WCHA play, the Huskies will host St. Thomas (Oct. 16 and Feb. 5), Minnesota State Mankato (Nov. 5-6), Minnesota (Nov. 20 and Feb. 11), Bemidji State (Dec. 3-4), Minnesota Duluth (Jan. 7-8), Ohio State (Jan. 14-15) and Wisconsin (Jan. 28-29).
SCSU forwards Jenniina Nylund (Finland) and Klara Hymlarova (Czech Republic) recently competed for their home nations in the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championships, as they each led their teams to quarterfinals appearances. The duo will join captains Kenzie Wylie and Emma Polusny on the ice for the Huskies in 2021-22.
