
Donaldson, Willert not enough in loss at Upper Iowa

Duo scores a combined 53 points in loss
FAYETTE, IOWA – The St. Cloud State University men's basketball team fell in its return to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play. Though the Huskies put up quite a fight against #16 Upper Iowa, they were unable to leave Fayette, Iowa with a victory, falling by a final score of 108-95. St. Cloud State is now 8-7 overall with a 4-4 mark in NSIC play.
GAME SUMMARY
St. Cloud State hung with the #16 team in the nation, shooting .545 from the floor in the first half, including a .628 (5-8) clip from three-point range. Upper Iowa, though, had more firepower in the final minutes of the first half, closing on a 9-2 scoring run to hold a 53-45 lead over the visiting Huskies. Anthony Roberts (Chicago, Ill. / Oak Park) and Caleb Donaldson (Bloomington, Ill. / Bloomington) led St. Cloud State's scoring efforts in the first 20 minutes, scoring nine points a piece, while Matthew Willert (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo) led with five rebounds.
The Huskies could not keep up with the Peacocks in the second half, though they did give the home team quite a scare. Twice, St. Cloud State was able to pull within nine in the final 10 minutes, using pushes from Donaldson and Willert to cut the lead to single digits. The Huskies could never catch Upper Iowa, however, as they fell by a final score of 108-95.
TOP HUSKIES
- Caleb Donaldson (Bloomington, Ill. / Bloomington) tied his single-season high with 31 points against Upper Iowa Friday evening. The junior guard went 10-15 from the floor and 10-12 from the free throw line in the loss while tallying five rebounds and six assists.
- Matthew Willert (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo) continued to score lots of points against the Peacocks, as he closed the game with 22 total on 7-13 shooting, including a 4-8 clip from three-point range.
- Ryan Bagley (Pocatello, Idaho / Burley) closed the night with a team-leading six rebounds and seven assists.

St. Cloud State will close the weekend in Winona, Minnesota as the team takes on Winona State. Tip off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
