
Women’s Hockey signee Laura Zimmermann named to Swiss Olympic Team

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Hockey signee Laura Zimmermann has been named to the Switzerland Olympic Team ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympics held in Beijing. She is the second St. Cloud State signee to make the Olympics in the program's history after Josefin Pettersson participated in Salt Lake 2002 with Sweden prior to joining the Huskies in 2002-03. With Zimmermann's inclusion, the Huskies will have three representitives in Beijing with Jenniina Nylund (Finland) and Klara Hymlarova (Czech Republic) also earning trips to the Winter Olympics.
"To see Laura achieve this accomplishment at such a young age is exciting," said Huskies head coach Steve Macdonald, "After a strong showing at the World Championships, she exhibited her ability to compete at the highest level. We look forward to watching her do the same on the Olympic stage."
Zimmermann scored a goal for the Swiss Senior National Team at the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championships. Through 21 games with EV Bomo Thun in the SWHL, Zimmermann has 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points.
2018 Huskies Swiss Olympian Janine Alder participated in Sochi 2014 prior to her time at St. Cloud State, although she had not yet signed with the program.
