
Huskies win eighth straight at Minot State

Team shoots season-high .462 in the win
MINOT, N.D. – Eight is pretty great fo the St. Cloud State University women's basketball team. The Huskies won their eighth consecutive game Friday evening, downing Minot State in Minot, North Dakota 83-65. It marks the first time St. Cloud State has scored 80+ points this season, as the Huskies improve to 19-3 overall and 17-2 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play.
EIGHT IS GREAT!
Minot State had the upper hand offensively to open the game, as the Beavers raced out to an early 9-6 lead over St. Cloud State. The Huskies, though, proved to be the better team by the end of the first quarter, using a 16-4 run to close the opening 10 minutes with a 22-13 lead over Minot State. St. Cloud State then proceeded to score 24 points in the second quarter, cruising to a 46-30 halftime lead over the Beavers.
The third quarter proved to be more of the same, as the Huskies maintained their double-digit lead over Minot State. In fact, St. Cloud State hit the 60 point mark before the three minute mark, jumping out to a 61-42 lead with 3:12 remaining in the quarter. The Beavers would cut into the lead in the closing minutes, though the Huskies maintained a 63-50 advantage entering the fourth quarter. That was the only lead St. Cloud State needed, as the team cruised through the fourth quarter to secure the 83-65 road victory.
TOP HUSKIES
- Tori Wortz (Hutchinson, Minn. / Hutchinson) was one of four Huskies to score in double-digits Friday evening, as she led the way with 24 on 9-20 shooting, including a 6-11 clip from three-point range. The fifth year senior added eight rebounds, two assists and a block in the win.
- Not to be outdone, Nikki Kilboten (Eau Claire, Wis. / Eau Claire North) scored 20 points of her own and also tallied eight rebounds, a block and a steal.
- Erin Navratil (Albany, Minn. / Albany) closed the game with 13 points after shooting 3-4 from beyond the arc, while Brehna Evans (De Pere, Wis. / West De Pere) scored 11 points and tallied nine assists and seven rebounds.
UP NEXT
Due to non-COVID related illness, St. Cloud State's game at UMary was cancelled and will not be rescheduled. That means, the Huskies will return home for their next game when they host Minnesota-Crookston at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 17.
