
Seniors lead Huskies to 60-49 victory over MSU-Moorhead

Nikki Kilboten leads with 20 points for St. Cloud State
ST. CLOUD, MINN. – The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team found the perfect way to honor its four seniors. In the final home Saturday of the 2021-22 season, the Huskies went ahead and avenged an early season loss in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play. Behind strong play from fifth year seniors Nikki Kilboten (Eau Claire, Wis. / Eau Claire North) and Tori Wortz (Hutchinson, Minn. / Hutchinson) St. Cloud State defeated MSU-Moorhead 60-49, improving to 18-3 overall and 16-2 in NSIC play.
AVENGERS ASSEMBLE
St. Cloud State's defensive efforts were on full display in the first half, as the Huskies once again held an opponent to single digit points in the first quarter. In fact, St. Cloud State led 16-8 after the opening 10 minutes of play thanks to strong defensive play and a scoring surge from fifth year seniors Tori Wortz (Hutchinson, Minn. / Hutchinson) and Nikki Kilboten (Eau Claire, Wis. / Eau Claire North). MSU-Moorhead turned the tides in the second, cutting the Huskies lead to 28-23 by halftime.
St. Cloud State went to work defensively for the first eight minutes of the third quarter, extending its lead back out to 10 points by the two minute mark. The Dragons, though, simply wouldn't go away, cutting the Huskies lead back down to 42-33 entering the final quarter. Nine points, though, was the closest MSU-Moorhead would come to catching St. Cloud State, as the Huskies used defensive tenacity to secure the 60-49 victory.
TOP HUSKIES
- Nikki Kilboten (Eau Claire, Wis. / Eau Claire North) led the way with 20 points for St. Cloud State on 7-10 shooting. She additionally pulled in six rebounds and tallied two assists.
- Tori Wortz (Hutchinson, Minn. / Hutchinson) and Brehna Evans (De Pere, Wis. / West De Pere) both scored 11 points in the victory. Wortz added six rebounds and five assists, while Evans lead the way with seven assists, seven rebounds and two steals.
- Katrina Theis (Maple Grove, Minn. / Maple Grove) closed the game with seven rebounds, most of which came in the second half.
UP NEXT
St. Cloud State will hit the road for its next NSIC series, as the Huskies are scheduled to take on Minot State at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 11.
