Polusny becomes SCSU’s first Goaltender of the Year
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Graduate goaltender Emma Polusny (Mound, Minn.) has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Goaltender of the Year, as announced on Tuesday. Polusny chartered a 4-10-3 record with a .923 save percentage and a 3.05 goals against average, set a career-high in single game saves twice and broke the program's all-time career saves record over the course of 2021-22. After being named the program's first-ever First Team all-conference recipient last week, Polunsy is now the program's first conference goaltender of the year.
Polusny is the first Husky to earn a conference end-of-year honor since Felicia Nelson was named WCHA co-Player of the Year in 2010. In addition to her First Team honor, Polusny became the Huskies' first non-rookie team All-WCHA recipient since she received Third Team honors in her 2017-18 rookie season. SCSU has had at least one player honored by the WCHA in each of the past three seasons, with Klara Hymlarova (2019-20) and Sanni Ahola (2020-21) picking up All-Rookie nods in the last two cycles.
The Mound, Minnesota native played an integral role in the Huskies' 2021-22 season, earning wins over RV Penn State, Bemidji State, RPI and Lindenwood while guiding SCSU to draws against No. 2/3 Wisconsin, No. 5 Minnesota-Duluth and St. Thomas.
The Huskies 2021-22 season end this past weekend in the WCHA quarterfinals, as St. Cloud State lost both games in a best-of-three series against No. 2 Ohio State.
