Braegelmann earns 400th collegiate victory as Foley, Rachel and Rossi each post double-digit kills
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 4 St. Cloud State Volleyball earned a tough four-set win over Sioux Falls on Friday evening in South Dakota. The win marked the 400th of head coach Chad Braegelmann's collegiate coaching career.
The Huskies held USF to hit just .198 and forced the Cougars into 25 attacking errors. Phebie Rossi anchored a dominant showing at the net with seven blocks while Kenzie Foley and Makena Hollman each added three.
Foley led all scorers with 15 kills, adding seven digs and an ace. Linsey Rachel hit .345 with 14 kills and eight digs, moving into fifth all-time in program history in the latter category during the match. Rossi provided 10 kills on .320 hitting as Sam Zimmerman put down eight on .250. Emma Berran directed the offense with 46 assists and a career-high three kills.
Keely Kurschner scored three times from the service line and led the Huskies with 16 digs. Rachel Houle added a pair of aces as SCSU posted eight on the evening.
Turning Point
After dropping the third set 25-22 and allowing Sioux Falls to hit .412 with 17 kills, St. Cloud State's defense regained their footing in the fourth. SCSU forced the Cougars into eight errors with just 11 kills (.094) and put away 14 kills of their own to seal the match 25-21.
Quotables – St. Cloud State head coach Chad Braegelmann
"I thought our women battled well. We had some adversity and didn't play very well at the end of the second set or the third set. We started out down in the fourth but were able to make some big block moves and serve tough to get us into a better spot."
"I liked the terminal blocks we had and did a good job of slowing their hitters down at times. We still need to do a much better job defending overall but we are happy with the win over a very talented Sioux Falls team."
