
St. Cloud State Cross Country Prepares for NSIC Championships

2023 NSIC Championships to be competed at McDowell Dam in Bismarck, North Dakota on Saturday
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Cross Country travels to Bismarck, North Dakota this weekend to compete in the 2023 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships on Saturday, October 21. The conference championships are set to begin at 10:00 a.m. CT at McDowell Dam.
LAST TIME OUT
Huskies Cross Country enjoyed a strong team effort at the Jimmie Invitational on October 6 in Jamestown, placing sixth out of 11 as a team as two runners earned top-30 finishes and one recorded a new personal best. Junior Cambrie Kowal (24:00.5) led the pack with a top 22 finish while senior Erica Conrad (24:15.3) joined her in the top 30 at 26th. Freshmen Alena Donahue (24:36.6) and Paige Beason (24:45.1) both earned top 40 finishes at 33rd and 36th respectively as sophomore Hannah Little (25:34.8) ran her second straight PR for a top 45 finish. Sophomore Jaileen Medina (26:42.6) landed in the top 55, dropping nearly 30 seconds off her previous meet's time.
LAST TIME AT MCDOWELL
The Huskies have ran once before this season at McDowell Dam, taking second at the Marauder Invitational on September 29 in Bismarck as part of a terrific performance in their third meet of the season. Junior Cambrie Kowal (24:10.9) led the pack with a fifth-place finish while freshmen Paige Beason (24:25.7) and Alena Donahue (24:27.1) went seven-eight and senior Erica Conrad (24:29.5) placed 10th to put four Huskies in the top 10. Sophomore Hannah Little (25:42.1) ran a PR for a top-14 finish while fellow sophomore Jaileen Medina (27:06.5) landed in the top 20. Freshman Mady Muehr wrapped up the SCSU effort with a 28:52.4 finish to place in the top 25.
PRESEASON POLLING
The Huskies were selected to finish ninth in the 2023 NSIC Coaches Poll as announced by the league office in August. SCSU enters their first season under the direction of head coach Gabrielle Brown and are coming off a seventh-place finish at the 2022 NSIC Championships. St. Cloud State has earned a top-10 finish at every NSIC Championships competed during their time as an NSIC member.
MEET THE HUSKIES
Junior Greta Freed was named the Huskies' NSIC Athlete to Watch entering the season after landing in the top 60 finishers at the NSIC Championships last fall. Freed is joined by senior Erica Conrad and junior Cambrie Kowal to form a strong upperclassmen group, leading a young team with six underclassmen. Sophomore Jaileen Medina and transfer Hannah Little join freshmen Paige Beason, Alena Donahue, Tegan Michalak and Mady Muehr to form a talented distance roster.
