Kupka scores a pair of goals in setback
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 6 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (19-11-3, 11-9-3 NCHC) fell behind by two goals twice and nearly came back twice, but fell to Minnesota Duluth (15-17-1, 10-13-0 NCHC), 4-3, on Friday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. Senior forward Kyler Kupka (Camrose, Alberta) scored twice for the Huskies, finding the back of the net twice in the second period to tie the score at 2-2.
TURNING POINT
The Huskies and Bulldogs were tied at 2-2 following Kupka's second period tallies, but UMD responded with the next two scores to gain its second two-goal lead of the game. Carter Loney scored at the 3:32 moment of the period while Cole Spicer scored at the 9:27 mark to make the score 4-2.
Sophomore forward Mason Salquist (Grand Forks, N.D.) scored an extra attacker goal in the final minute of the game, but the Bulldogs fended off the late charge for the 4-3 victory.

St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth will finish the series tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. CT at the Brooks Center. The game will serve as the Huskies Senior Day, with a ceremony to follow the game.

- Kupka recorded his first career multi-goal with his 16th and 17th career goals in the second period. His second goal was on the power play, his fifth score of the season on the man advantage.
- The Husky senior set a new career high for points in a season with 20 points (9g/11a), surpassing his mark of 18 points (5g/13a) in 2021-22.
- Salquist scored his third goal of the season, matching his mark from his freshman campaign (2021-22).
- Senior forward Jami Krannila (Nokia, Finland) added an assist on Salquist's goal to record his 37th point of the season, the most by a Husky in a single season since 2018-19 when three Huskies scored 39+ points (Patrick Newell, 46; Blake Lizotte, 40; Robby Jackson, 39).
- Ingram recorded his 14th assist and 20th point on the season as he added the primary assist on Kupka's power play goal. It marks the first 20-point season from a freshman since Veeti Miettinen had 24 points (11g/13a) in 2020-21.
