Chobak and Gentry to compete in the 2023 Collegiate Select Series later this week with Team USA
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – St. Cloud State Women's Hockey goaltender Jojo Chobak and forward Emma Gentry has been named to the 2023 U.S. Collegiate Select Team following terrific performances at the USA Hockey Women's National Festival. Chobak, Gentry and Team USA will compete against Canada in the 2023 Collegiate Select Series later this week, August 16-19, at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, New York.
The duo become the fourth and fifth active Huskies to be named to the Collegiate Select Team – formerly known as the U22 Team – and first since goaltender Emma Polusny made the team in 2019. Defender Brittni Kuyper made back-to-back U22 squads in 2006 and 2007 while forward Holly Roberts joined her at the 2007 U22 Series.
The 2023 Collegiate Select Series will begin on Wednesday, August 16 with a 6:00 p.m. ET puck drop and continues on Thursday, August 17 and Saturday, August 19 with 6:00 p.m. ET starts. All Series games will be streamed on USAHockeyTV.com.
Chobak will be making her National Team debut with the Collegiate Select Team following a phenomenal first season with St. Cloud State in 2022-23, going 9-7-1 across 17 starts and posting a .923 save percentage alongside a 2.46 goals against average. The junior broke the Huskies' single-season shutout record with five clean sheets throughout the season while recording the fifth-lowest GAA in program history. Among her WCHA counterparts, Chobak ranked fourth in save percentage and fifth in goals against average while landing No. 19 and No. 25 respectively nationally.
Gentry's National Team appearance will be her second tournament with Team USA as she helped the U.S. win gold at the 2020 IIHF Junior World Championships, scoring a goal against Russia in the Semifinals while skating in all five games. She enjoyed a strong junior campaign with St. Cloud State in 2022-23, skating in 36 games while scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists for 22 points. The center won 229 draws, shared the team lead with 10 even-strength goals and put 116 shots on goal to shoot a strong 11.21%. She was second among her positional group with 25 blocked shots. Across 85 games during her three years at SCSU Gentry has scored 34 goals with 18 assists for 52 points.
