No. 13 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Blanks Lindenwood 5-0 Again for Opening Weekend Series Sweep

Huskies post back-to-back shutouts to open a season for first time in program history, five different players score, Chobak earns 22-save shutout in first game in 567 days
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 13 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (2-0-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) scored four goals in the first 11 minutes of the game en route to another 5-0 shutout win over Lindenwood (Mo.) (0-2-0, 0-0-0 Atlantic Hockey America). The Huskies earned an opening weekend series sweep for the fourth consecutive season and posted back-to-back shutouts to open a season for the first time in program history.
SCSU got goals from five different players, and 10 skaters recorded a point, while graduate goaltender Jojo Chobak recorded a 22-save shutout. The sweep is the first for head coach Mira Jalosuo.
The final goal of the Huskies first period barrage came from Lindenwood transfer, junior forward Sidney Jackel (Ann Arbor, Mich.) who had her first shot saved before putting the rebound away.
Despite outshooting LU 17-5 in the second period, SCSU was unable to convert, and the game went into the final 20 minutes with the 4-0 scoreline.
After nearly scoring on multiple occasions in her season debut, senior forward Svenja Voigt (Cologne, Germany) finally put one in the back of the net six and a half minutes into the third period. Jackel found Voigt streaking through the slot during a two-on-two breakaway to put the finishing touches on the SCSU opening weekend sweep.

The Huskies wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as freshman forward Maria Mikaelyan (Moscow, Russia) scored her second goal in as many games from the same spot above the dots. Under two minutes later, sophomore defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) scored her first goal of the season after she was unmarked in the high slot. Two minutes after Yrjölä's goal, junior forward Payton Holloway (Tomah, Wis.) beat two Lion defenders on a breakaway and flipped the puck over the netminders nearside pad into the back of the net. SCSU's three goals in the first 6:30 of play forced Lindenwood to make a change in net.

- Yrjölä posted a three-point night with one goal and two assists while skating to a +2 mark. She was named the game's first star.
- Jackel recorded a goal and assist against her former club and was named the game's second star.
- Chobak saved all 22 shots she faced, earning the shutout win. She was named the game's third star and one of the WCHA Brew Pub 3 Stars of the Night.
- SCSU improves to 20-2-2 all-time against Lindenwood and 10-1-0 against the Lions in St. Cloud.
- The Huskies swept their opening weekend series for the fourth consecutive year and posted back-to-back shutouts to open a season for the first time in program history.
- SCSU scored 5+ goals for the second consecutive game. It was the first time since February 23-24, 2024, that the Huskies scored 5+ goals in back-to-back games.
- The Huskies scored 10 goals in the series, which is the most since last season when they also put up 10 over two games against Lindenwood.
- SCSU went 0-for-2 on the power play (2-4 this season) and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill to remain a perfect 5-for-5 this season.
- Jalosuo earned her first sweep as head coach of SCSU.
- Yrjölä recorded the first three-point game of her career after recording her first career multi-point game in the season opener yesterday. She already has five points this season after having five all of last season (32 games).
- Jackel scored her first goal in an SCSU sweater and posted her sixth career multi-point game.
- Chobak earned her 10th career shutout in her season debut and is now tied with former teammate Sanni Ahola (2020-25) for the most career shutouts in program history. It was her first time between the pipes in 567 days (March 2, 2024) after redshirting during the 2024-25 season.
- Holloway scored her first goal in a Husky sweater and skated to a career-best +2 mark.
- Mikaelyan scored a goal for the second consecutive game.
- Voigt scored a goal in her season debut while putting a career high six shots on goal.
- Freshman forward Julianne Labbé (Wendake, Quebec) tallied her first two career assists for her first career multi-point game. She also skated to a career best mark (+2).
- Junior defender Sydney Bryant (Traverse City, Mich.) and freshman defender Sydney Lamb (Lombard, Ill.) each skated to a career-high +3 mark.
- Freshman defender Maélie Pion (Sherbrooke, Quebec) recorded an assist for the second straight game and skated to a career-best +3 mark.
- Freshman forward Payton Remick (Roseau, Minn.) recorded her first collegiate assist/point.
- junior forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) contributed an assist for the second straight game and was an impressive 16-and-7 (69.6%) on the faceoff dot. Through two games this season she is 33-and-15 (68.8%) on the dot.
- Senior forward Avery Farrell (Rogers, Minn.) recorded an assist in her season debut.
- Freshman forward Raili Mustonen (Kalajoki, Finland) registered a career-high three shots on goal.
- Freshman forward Reese Strauts (Oak Lawn, Ill.) and freshman defender Aruba Skiston (Bensenville, Ill.) made their collegiate debuts.
