Jalosuo Earns First Win as Head Coach, No. 13 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Routs Lindenwood 5-0 in Season Opener

Huskies get goals from five different players including two freshmen, Kyrkkö posts an 18-save shutout, 11 skaters tally a point
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 13 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (1-0-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) used three third period goals to run away from Lindenwood (Mo.) and earn a 5-0 season-opening win on Friday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. The Huskies got goals from five different players, including two freshmen and 11 skaters recorded a point, while sophomore goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland) recorded an 18-save shutout. The win marks the first in the Mira Jalosuo era.
SCSU's first goal of the new season came with under 30 seconds remaining in the first period when junior forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) ripped a shot past the LU netminder from the top of the left circle. The Huskies doubled their lead in the second period when junior forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) put a deflection off the end board in the back of the net.
The Huskies broke the game open in the third period, scoring three goals. The first came in the first 90 seconds of the period when junior forward Marie Moran (Lakeville, Minn.) tipped in a long shot from the point by freshman defender Sydney Lamb (Lombard, Ill.). SCSU went on the power play for the first time in the third period and took advantage in the last five seconds of a 5-on-3 situation when freshman forward Julianne Labbé (Wendake, Quebec) deflected a long shot from Sundelin into the goal. Twenty seconds later fellow freshman forward Maria Mikaelyan (Moscow, Russia) also converted on the power play, scoring her first career goal on a snipe from the point.
St. Cloud State performed well on special teams, going perfect on both the penalty kill (4-for-4) and power play (2-for-2).

- Sauriol opened the scoring for the Huskies and tacked on an assist in a +2 performance. She was named the game's first star.
- Sundelin posted a goal and an assist while skating to a +2 mark. She was named the game's second star.
- Kyrkkö stopped all 18 shots she faced, earning the shutout win. She was named the game's third star and was named one of the WCHA Brew Pub 3 Starts of the Night.
- Sophomore defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) and Lamb each recorded two assists for a 2-point night.
- SCSU improves to 19-2-2 all-time against Lindenwood and 9-1-0 agaisnt the Lions in St. Cloud.
- The Huskies won their sixth straight season opener and scored 5+ goals for the first time since January 31, 2025, at home against (RV) St. Thomas.
- Jalosuo earned her first win as head coach of the program.
- Sauriol recorded her 25th career assist.
- Sundelin's two points pushed her to 30 for her career.
- Kyrkkö earned her fourth career shutout, lowered her career goals against average to 1.88 and improved her career save percentage to .928.
- Yrjölä posted her first career multi-assist/multi-point game and skated to a career-best +2 mark.
- Lamb recorded the first two assists/points of her career in her debut.
- Moran recorded the fifth point (third goal) of her career.
- Labbé and Mikaelyan scored their first career goals in their debuts, both coming on the power play.
- Junior defender Sydney Bryant (Traverse City, Mich.) and freshman defender Maélie Pion (Sherbrooke, Quebec) each tallied an assist for their first collegiate point. Pion made her collegiate debut.
- Redshirt junior forward Laura Zimmermann (Ringgenberg, Switzerland) tallied her 15th career assist.
- Junior forwards Payton Holloway (Tomah, Wis.) and Sidney Jackel (Ann Arbor, Mich.) each made their debut in an SCSU sweater after transferring in during the offseason.
- Freshman forwards Lily Erickson (Roseau, Minn.), Raili Mustonen (Kalajoki, Finland) and Payton Remick (Roseau, Minn.) along with redshirt freshman Myah Krueger (Stillwater, Minn.) all made their collegiate debuts.
