
St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey Announces 2023-24 Freshmen Class

SCSU adds eight student-athletes, including NHL draft picks Warren Clark and Barrett Hall
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Hockey announced the addition of eight freshmen to solidify its roster ahead of the 2023-24 season, as announced on Monday. Among the group of newcomers are four forwards, three defenseman and one goaltender. Two draft picks – Tampa Bay Lightning sixth round pick Warren Clark (Riverside, Ontario) and Seattle Kraken sixth round pick Barrett Hall (Apple Valley, Minn.) – highlight the class that features six international athletes (four from Canada) and two from the State of Hockey.
"Our coaching staff has done an incredible job recruiting this freshmen class and we are very excited for them to join our team in St. Cloud," said head coach Brett Larson. "Each student-athlete will provide a skill set will help our team continue to succeed on the ice, and more importantly, will represent the values our program prioritizes off the ice. We look forward to getting these eight student-athletes on campus for preseason camp to prepare for our upcoming season."
Warren Clark – D – 6-3 – 195 – Riverside, Ontario – Steinbach (MJHL)
Warren Clark, a 6-foot-3 righty defenseman, joins St. Cloud State after spending the 2022-23 season with the Steinbach Pistons of the MJHL, where he scored six goals and 32 assists for 38 points in 55 games. In the playoffs, Clark helped the Pistons win the Turnbull Cup as MJHL playoff champions by recording a goal and seven assists for eight points in 18 games. Clark also played for the Chatham Maroons of the GOJHL and the South Shore Kings of the NCDC in 2021-22, scoring a combined six goals and 14 assists for 20 points in 50 regular games played while recording 10 assists in the playoffs for the Marrons. In June, Clark was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the sixth round (179th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft.
Tynan Ewart – D – 6-2 – 160 – Duncan, British Columbia – Battleford (SJHL)
Following a two-year stint with the Battleford North Stars of the SJHL, Tynan Ewart will join the Huskies blue line as a 6-foot-2 lefty defenseman. In his two seasons with the North Stars (2021-23), Ewart played in 112 regular season and 19 playoff games, totaling 16 goals and 88 assists for 104 points. Ewart was named the 2022-23 SJHL Defenseman of the Year after leading all SJHL defenseman in assists (48) and points (56) while ranking second in power play assists (23) and game-winning goals (three). Ewart recorded eight goals and 48 assists for 56 points in the regular season before adding two goals and 12 assists for 14 points while helping lead the North Stars to the 2023 Canterra Seeds Cup as the SJHL playoff champions. Prior to his time in the SJHL, Ewart played in the Pilot Mound Academy program for three seasons (2017-20).
Tyson Gross – F – 6-3 – 180 – Calgary, Alberta – Cedar Rapids (USHL)
Tyson Gross, a 6-foot-3 forward from Calgary, joins the Huskies after two seasons in the USHL with the Fargo Force (2021-22) and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (2022-23). Following an eight-point, 23-game season with the Force in 2021-22, Gross produced seven goals and 32 assists for 39 points in 54 games with the RoughRiders this past season. Prior to his USHL experience, Gross spent two seasons with the Calgary Flames U18 team in the AMHL, including a 41-point season (21 goals / 20 assists) in 27 games in 2019-20.
Barrett Hall – F – 6-0 – 170 – Apple Valley, Minn. – Green Bay (USHL)
A Seattle Kraken draft pick from 2022, Apple Valley native Barrett Hall joins the Huskies after four seasons with Gentry Academy (2018-22), one season with the Minnesota Wilderness of the NAHL (2021-22) and one season with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL (2022-23). Hall finished his historic Gentry Academy career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 186 points (86 goals / 100 assists) in 94 games and a 2021 Minnesota Class A state championship while being named a top-10 finalist for the 2022 Mr. Hockey Minnesota Award. Following the end of his prep career, Hall played 19 games for the Minnesota Wilderness, scoring five points and 15 assists for 20 points in 2021-22. This past season with the Gamblers, Hall produced 17 goals and 28 assists for 45 points. In July 2022, Hall was drafted by the Seattle Kraken in the sixth round (164th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.
Verner Miettinen – F – 5-11 – 165 – Espoo, Finland – Fargo (USHL)
Verner Miettinen, the younger brother of current Husky Veeti Miettinen, joins the St. Cloud State program following one season with the Fargo Force where he played for former Husky captain and assistant coach Nick Oliver. With the Force in 2022-23, Miettinen scored 17 goals and 17 assists for 34 points in 51 games with a +8 mark on the ice while helping the Force win the 2022-23 USHL Anderson Cup and advance to the Clark Cup finals. Prior to coming over to the USHL, Miettinen played for five seasons for numerous teams in Finland, including a banner season in 2019-20 with the Kiekko-Espoo U20 team where he scored 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points in 49 games.
Isak Posch – G – 6-3 – 210 – Umea, Sweden – Minnesota (NAHL)
Isak Posch is a 6-foot-3 goaltender from Umea, Sweden who comes to St. Cloud State following two seasons in the U.S. junior hockey circuit with the Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL, 2021-22) and the Minnesota Wilderness (NAHL, 2022-23). Posch started 35 games as the lead goaltender for the Stampede in 2021-22 before joining the Wilderness for the 2022-23 season where he posted a 25-13-2 record with a 2.12 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. Prior to coming to the U.S. Posch played five seasons with IF Bjorkloven and Leksands IF in Sweden, with his best season coming in 2019-20 where he went 10-2-0 with a 1.72 GAA and a .930 S% in 13 games with Leksands IF U20.
Jack Reimann – F – 6-0 – 190 – Ham Lake, Minn. – Des Moines (USHL)
Jack Reimann, a Blaine High School product, joins the Huskies' forward group following two seasons in the USHL and one season in the NAHL. Reimann began his junior hockey career with the St. Cloud Norseman (NAHL) in 2020-21, where he scored 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points in 49 games. He played 62 games for the Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL) in 2021-22 where he produced 20 points (eight points / 12 assists) before splitting time between three USHL teams, Sioux Falls Stampede, the Muskegon Lumberjacks and Des Moines Buccaneers in 2022-23 where he played 55 games and scored 22 points (10 points / 12 assists). Prior to his junior hockey career, Reimann played three seasons for Blaine, where he scored 20 goals and 40 assists for 60 points in 73 games and led the Bengals to a third-place finish at the 2019 Minnesota Class AA State Tournament. Reimann's father, Dan, played on the blue for the Huskies from 1992-96, totaling seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points.
Kaleb Tiessen – D – 6-5 – 210 – Leamington, Ontario – Maryland (NAHL)
Kaleb Tiessen, a 6-foot-5 lefty defenseman from Leamington, Ontario, joins the Huskies after a highly productive season with the Maryland Black Bears of the NAHL in 2022-23. In 51 games this past season, Tiessen scored seven goals and 18 assists for 25 points and a +22 mark on the ice. Tiessen played three seasons of junior hockey in Canada before coming to the U.S., playing with the Chatham Maroons (2019-20, GOJHL), the Collingwood Blues (2020-21, OJHL), the Burlington Cougars (2021-22, OJHL) and the Utica Jr. Comets (2021-22, NCDC). His best season came with Burlington, where he scored six goals and 24 assists for 30 points in 50 games.
