St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Set to Host UMary in NSIC Quarterfinals

Huskies face Maurauders on Monday to open NSIC Tournament
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 4-seed St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (11-2-5, 8-1-5 NSIC) will host No. 5-seed U-Mary (10-4-3, 8-3-3 NSIC) in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Quarterfinals on Monday, Nov. 11. The two teams will kick off at 2:00 p.m. CT at Husky Stadium.
The Huskies ended the season as the four-seed in the NSIC standings after earning 29 points. Minnesota State captured the regular season championship with 36 points (12-1-5, 11-0-3 NSIC) while Concordia-St. Paul (31 points, 12-3-3, 10-3-1 NSIC) and Augustana (30 points, 10-4-4, 9-2-3 NSIC) finished second and third, respectively. UMary finished in fifth place with 27 points (10-4-3, 8-3-3 NSIC), while Minot State finished in sixth (27 points, 10-3-4, 8-3-3 NSIC), Bemidji State finished in seventh (24 points, 9-6-3, 7-4-3 NSIC) and Wayne State finished in eighth-place (22 points, 7-6-5, 6-4-4 NSIC).

HOSTING AGAIN
Monday's quarterfinal match will mark the third time in program history SCSU has hosted an NSIC Quarterfinal game (2009, 2023) and the first time in program history it has hosted a quarterfinal in back-to-back seasons. SCSU is 3-11-2 all-time in the NSIC Tournament, and won its quarterfinal game last season against Minnesota Duluth, winning 1-0 on Nov. 6, 2023.
SERIES HISTORY
In the all-time series against the two schools, SCSU leads against U-Mary, 11-7-2, with SCSU holding a 3-1-2 advantage in the last six games. Earlier this season, the two teams tied, 1-1, on Oct. 11 in Bismarck with junior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) netting the goal for the Huskies. Last season, the Huskies beat UMary, 2-1, on Oct. 8 at Husky Stadium with Quam and sophomore forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) finding the back of the net.
REGIONAL RANKINGS
In the second set of NCAA Women's Soccer Regional Rankings, St. Cloud State was ranked No. 6 in the central region. The Huskies are one of 10 teams ranked in the top-10, with Minnesota State ranking third, Concordia-St. Paul at seventh and Augustana at 10th. Last season, the Huskies earned the No. 3 spot in the NCAA Central Regional Tournament, its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
PROGRAM MILESTONES
The Huskies current unbeaten streak sits at 11 consecutive games, setting a new program record. The previous streaks of nine unbeaten games occurred during the 1995, 2011 and 2023 seasons. The Huskies are now 6-0-5 in their last nine games and 11-1-5 in their last 12, with its last loss coming on Sept. 27 (1-0 at Augustana). SCSU reached 10 wins for the second consecutive season and seventh season overall. It marks the first time since 2010-11 that they have recorded back-to-back season with 10+ wins.
CASE FOR ALL-NSIC
Among many Huskies, junior forward Ellie Primerano (St. Joseph, Mich.) and sophomore forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) have led the way offensively all season for the Huskies, making their bid for All-NSIC selections. Each of them rank in the NSIC's top-10 in goals, game-winning goals and points this season. Primerano leads the conference in game-winning goals (three) while ranking sixth in goals (six) and sixth in points (15). Trapino also leads the NSIC in game-winning goals (three), while ranking ninth in goals (five) and 13th in points (12).
Primerano was named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 23 after scoring in both games of SCSU's weekend sweep over Minnesota Duluth (2-1, Sept. 20) and Bemidji State (2-1, Sept. 22). It marked the third time in her career she has earned the conference weekly honor after winning it twice as a sophomore in 2023. Primerano scored two goals and added an assist for a five-point weekend, as she also extended her goal streak to three consecutive games and had the game-winning goal in Sunday's win over the Beavers. She helped extend SCSU's win streak to nine over UMD, while helping the Huskies beat the Beavers for the first time since Nov. 13, 2019. Her five-point weekend helped her become the 22nd player in program history to reach 25 career points, as she now ranks 12th all-time with 34 career points (10g/14a).
Trapino netted her fourth goal of the season in a 4-0 win over MSU Moorhead on Oct. 18, as she became the 23rd Husky to reach 25 career points, now ranking 18th with 29 points (12g/5a). In just 35 games, Trapino has already registered seven game-winning goals, a mark which ranks fourth on the all-time SCSU list.
ORHAM EXCELLING IN NET
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Meriel Orham (St. Michael, Minn.) has made the most of her opportunity in the net for the Huskies this season, playing every game this season and recording an 11-2-5 mark on the season. She has recorded seven shutouts this season against Roosevelt (Sept. 13), Parkside (three saves, Sept. 15), Wayne State (four saves, Sept. 29), Concordia-St. Paul (three saves, Oct. 4), MSU Moorhead (Oct. 18), SMSU (four saves, Oct. 25) and Minnesota Crookston (Nov. 7).
On the season, Orham is 11-2-5 with a 0.61 goals-against-average, .828 save percentage and five shutouts. Her GAA would set a new program season record, while her seven shutouts and 11 wins currently rank fifth and fourth, respectively, among all Huskies.
