
No. 1 St. Cloud State Wrestling Earns Six Titles at Yellowjacket Open

Huskies place 22 wrestlers
Rochester, Minn. No. 1 St. Cloud State Wrestling opened up their season by participating in the Yellowjacket Open this weekend. Six Huskies earned titles while 22Â Huskies placed in their respective weight classes.

At 125, red-shirt freshman Dominic Ducato took down Christian Olsen 11-2 with a major decision. Ducato and teammate Archer Heelan would not wrestle each other in the following round.
Wrestling at 133, redshirt senior Sam Spencer took first place after capturing two bonus point victories. Spencer earned a 19-4 technical fall victory against Cael Weinzweig in Round 2 and then won by major decision against Owen Hansen to clinch first place.
Wrestling at 141, freshman Jayce Luna picked up three bonus point victories on his way to earning a title. Luna won his opening match 20-3, his quarterfinal bout 16-3, and then captured a fall at the 2:43 mark against Dylan Enriquez to earn a title.
At 149, redshirt senior Nolan Throne used two technical falls and an injury defeault to take first place. Throne beat Davin Rose 17-1 in Round 1 and then Kage Lenger 16-1 in Round 2. Â
Wrestling at 157, redshirt freshman Derek Johnson recorded four wins to take first place. Johnson won by tiebreaker 10-9 in Round 1 against Kyle Boeke and then captured two decision victories with wins of 11-5 and 2-0. Johnson then clinched the title with a 13-2 major decision victory against Cooper Larson.Â

At 285, La'Ron Parks earned the final title for the Huskies. Parks received a bye in the quarterfinals and then beat Ryan Boersma 6-2 to advance to the championship round. Parks would face off against teammate Jadon Mims where he earned a 11-0 major decision victory to take the title.

Eight other Huskies would go on to place in the Open including Archer Heelan who also finished third at 125, Brandon Eusebio who took second at 141, Aoci Bernard who placed third at 141, Jude Link who took fifth at 165, James Burks' who took second at 174. Nathan Fury who finished second at 197, Jadon Mims who finished second at 285, and Donnie Hidden who place fifth at 285.
In the freshman/sophomore division, eight other Huskies placed including Austin Grzywinski who finished third at 125, Isaiah Foster who finished eighth at 141, Mason Carpenter who placed eighth at 149, Patrick Kubisa who finished seventh at 157, Jeroen Smith who took fourth at 157, Patrick Kubisa who placed eighth at 157, Augustus Donovan who took third at 165, and Dominic Mann who placed sixth at 165.Â
