Huskies Command the Paint in 67-57 Win Against Northern State

St. Cloud State picks up second conference win of the year
St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (6-6, 2-2 NSIC) picked up their second conference victory of the season as they defeated Northern State 67-57 Saturday evening. The Huskies got off to a slow start as they trailed 10-4 in the first three minutes of the game. Wyatt Hawks would cap off an 11-4 run following a timeout with a finish inside as St. Cloud State would now lead 15-14 at the 11:03 mark. The teams battled back-and-forth for most of the first half, but SCSU started to slowly build up a lead as layup by Luke Winkel put the Huskies up nine with 3:49 left in the half. A strong close to the half by SCSU would lead to a 36-26 advantage at the break. St. Cloud State carried over their momentum to the second half as a layup by Lee Marks III capped off a 9-2 run where the Huskies now led by 17 points. St. Cloud State firmly held a double-digit lead over the next seven minutes before a three-pointer by Northern State brought them within seven points. With momentum on the Wolves side, Winkel split a pair of free throws and then the Huskies got a defensive stop. On the other end, Anish Ramlall collapsed the defense before dumping it down to a diving Hawks who threw down a flush. SCSU forced another turnover as Winkel capitalized on it by draining a jumper to put the Huskies back up 12 points with 4:51 left in the game. St. Cloud State led by 8+ points the remainder of the game as they went on to beat Northern State 67-57 at Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies shot 64% from two-point range on 22 makes. 38 on their 44 points from two were in the paint while they held Northern State to 20 points in the paint.
