St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (6-6, 2-2 NSIC) wrap up 2024 this week as they host UMary on Tuesday, December 17 and then travel to Bemidji State on Thursday, December 19. Both games are set for 7:30 p.m.

St. Cloud State played their first home conference games of the season as they hosted No. 6 MSU Moorhead and Northern State.
Friday's game against MSU Moorhead saw the Huskies get off to a strong start as Lucas Morgan converted an and-one layup to put SCSU up 8-2 early in the half. The Dragons would find their groove as they took a 17-10 lead at the 14:09 mark of the half after a 15-2 run. Coming out of a timeout, the Huskies started to get back into the game as Luke Winkel drained a three to bring SCSU within two points. MSUM pushed the lead back up to seven points after a three-pointer by Jacob Beeninga, but St. Cloud State stayed resilient as Anish Ramlall capped off a 12-2 run as the Huskies would take a 29-27 lead with 5:36 left in the half. The teams battled back-and-forth the remainder of the first half as a buzzer beating layup by Kynan Philippe gave the Huskies a 40-39 lead going into halftime. The teams continued the tight play into the second half as Ramlall cashed a three to tie the game at 47. Moorhead started to take control after that make as they embarked on a 9-0 run to lead with 12:32 left in the game. The Huskies would chip away over the final 12 minutes as a three-pointer by Nate Dahl brought the Huskies within two points with 1:41 left in the game. In need of a stop, the Huskies would force Beeninga into a tough layup that he missed, but SCSU would be called for over the back, leading to free throws for the Dragons. Logan Kinsey would make one of his two attempts, leaving the door open for St. Cloud State. Now needing a score, Luke Winkel would draw a crowd on a drive and dish it down to an open Lee Marks III who finished a layup with 29 seconds left, setting the score at 73-72. St. Cloud State would foul and Moorhead again went 1/2 at the line. On the ensuing offensive possession, Wyatt Hawks drove into the lane where he would be fouled on his layup attempt with eight seconds remaining. Hawks knocked down the first attempt, to bring the Huskies within one point, but was unable to tie the game after he missed the second attempt. St. Cloud State fouled on the rebound as they trailed 74-73 with six seconds left. Moorhead went 1/2 at the line, making the second attempt to put the Dragons up 75-73. Having no timeouts left, the Huskies would need to go the length of the court to tie or potentially take the lead. SCSU inbounded to Winkel who quickly worked his way into the paint. He would go up for the game-tying layup but would have his shot blocked as time expired. St. Cloud State would fall to 5-6 on the year following a 75-73 loss to the Dragons. Luke Winkel led the Huskies in scoring and assists as tallied 16 points on 5/11 shooting while dishing four assists. Winkel also set a career-high in three-point makes after going 3/4 from deep to go along with two steals. Wyatt Hawks nearly tallied a double-double as he scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds. He also set a career-high of three assists while blocking two shots.
Saturday's game against Northern State was a slow start for the Huskies as they trailed 10-4 in the first three minutes of the game. Wyatt Hawks would cap off an 11-4 run following a timeout with a finish inside as St. Cloud State would now lead 15-14 at the 11:03 mark. The teams battled back-and-forth for most of the first half, but SCSU started to slowly build up a lead as layup by Luke Winkel put the Huskies up nine with 3:49 left in the half. A strong close to the half by SCSU would lead to a 36-26 advantage at the break. St. Cloud State carried over their momentum to the second half as a layup by Lee Marks III capped off a 9-2 run where the Huskies now led by 17 points. Wyatt Hawks tallied his second double-double of the season as he scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, tying his career-high. Hawks shot a perfect 8/8 from the field while setting a career-high of three assists to go along with a block. Anish Ramlall scored 14 points while grabbing a career-high of six rebounds. Luke Taylor started the run by grabbing an offensive rebound and scoring a putback layup. Matt Willert capped off the ensuing defensive possession by grabbing a rebound and then used a screen by Taylor to bury a deep three. After the Huskies knotted the game at 29 with 5:35 left in the half, they would go on to finish the half on a 12-4 run to take a 41-33 lead going into halftime. Anish Ramlall closed out the half by splashing home a corner three pointer with six seconds left.

Dalton Albrecht of Bemidji State made a layup with 1:53 left in overtime to cut the Huskies lead down to one-point. St. Cloud State did not convert on their ensuing offensive possession and sent John Sutherland to the free throw line on the defensive end. The University of Mary Marauders enter this matchup holding a 4-9 record with a 2-2 mark in conference play. Like the Huskies, UMary has beaten Northern State and Minnesota Crookston while falling to MSU Moorhead and Minot State. The Marauders entered this season projected to finish 15th in the conference after going 7-21 with a 2-20 record in conference play last season. In the offseason, the Marauders lost their two top scorers in Gerald Gittens and Brock Heffner who averaged 13.8 and 13.4 points per game respectively.
Through 13 games, the Marauders hold three players in double-digit scoring with Jeremiah Jones, Kevin McGaskey, and Ty Rogers all above the 10-point threshold. Jones leads the trio with 12.8 points while shooting 47.1% from the field and 35.8% from beyond the arc. Scouting Bemidji State
The Bemidji State Beavers come into this matchup with the Huskies holding a 4-6 record with a 1-3 mark in NSIC play. The lone conference win for the Beavers came against Northern State while they have been defeated by Minnesota Crookston, Minot State, and MSU Moorhead. BSU has lost five of their past six games with their win against Northern State snapping their four-game losing streak. The Beavers came into this season projected to finish fifth in the conference after they went 13-16 with a 9-13 conference record to place ninth. Last year, Bemidji State reached the NSIC Tournament where they would be defeated by Sioux Falls.
The Beavers return their First Team All-NSIC performer in John Sutherland, however he has yet to make an appearance this year. Malang Athian has stepped up in his place after transferring from Maryland Eastern Shore. Athian is the team's leading scorer with 13.7 points per game while shooting 46.8% from the field to go along with 4.6 rebounds. Tate Olson is the only other Beaver in double-figure scoring as he nearly averages a double-double with 11.2 points and 8.7 rebounds. The defenses of both teams shined in the final 67 seconds as neither team scored, sending the game into a second overtime period.
BSU built up a four-point lead with 3:06 left in the second overtime period. St. Cloud State responded by going on a 5-0 to take a 100-99 lead converting on five of its eight free throw attempts. Albrecht made a layup for Bemidji State as they took a 101-100 lead with 72 seconds remaining. BSU's defense forced a miss on the next possession, however the Huskies then forced the Beavers into a shot clock violation to regain control of the ball with 13 seconds remaining. SCSU called a timeout and drew up a play for Allen to win the game. Allen began at the left wing and blew by his defender and finished the go-ahead bucket with seven seconds remaining. The Huskies held a 102-101 lead, and again needed a big-time defensive stop. BJ Davis of Bemidji State missed a fall-away jumper on the baseline, but Albrecht was on the weak-side and rose up for a putback layup at the buzzer to give Bemidji the 103-102 victory. Albrecht finished the game with 25 points and nine rebounds to break the hearts of the Huskies.
Scouting UMary
The University of Mary Marauders enter this matchup holding a 4-9 record with a 2-2 mark in conference play. Like the Huskies, UMary has beaten Northern State and Minnesota Crookston while falling to MSU Moorhead and Minot State. The Marauders entered this season projected to finish 15th in the conference after going 7-21 with a 2-20 record in conference play last season. In the offseason, the Marauders lost their two top scorers in Gerald Gittens and Brock Heffner who averaged 13.8 and 13.4 points per game respectively.
Through 13 games, the Marauders hold three players in double-digit scoring with Jeremiah Jones, Kevin McGaskey, and Ty Rogers all above the 10-point threshold. Scouting Bemidji State
The Bemidji State Beavers come into this matchup with the Huskies holding a 4-6 record with a 1-3 mark in NSIC play. The lone conference win for the Beavers came against Northern State while they have been defeated by Minnesota Crookston, Minot State, and MSU Moorhead. BSU has lost five of their past six games with their win against Northern State snapping their four-game losing streak. The Beavers came into this season projected to finish fifth in the conference after they went 13-16 with a 9-13 conference record to place ninth. Last year, Bemidji State reached the NSIC Tournament where they would be defeated by Sioux Falls.
The Beavers return their First Team All-NSIC performer in John Sutherland, however he has yet to make an appearance this year. Malang Athian has stepped up in his place after transferring from Maryland Eastern Shore. Athian is the team's leading scorer with 13.7 points per game while shooting 46.8% from the field to go along with 4.6 rebounds. Tate Olson is the only other Beaver in double-figure scoring as he nearly averages a double-double with 11.2 points and 8.7 rebounds. He is shooting 51.2% from the field while clipping 42.5% from beyond the arc.
Head Coach Mike Boschee enters his 13th season with Bemidji State in the 2024-25 season. Boschee has tallied a 148-175 record during his tenure and is currently the all-time winningest coach in program history.
