Five different Huskies found the back of the net in the game, led by junior defenseman Jack Peart's (Grand Rapids, Minn.) three-point night.
Miami came out of the gates buzzing and recorded five of the first six shots on goal in the game, but the Huskies were able to weather the storm and strike first late in the period. With just under five minutes left in the period, junior forward Nick Portz (St. Cloud, Minn.) gathered the puck behind the RedHawk net and found Peart, who was streaking towards the net and sent a slap shot past the netminder for the first score of the game. The Huskies would then go on the power play soon after, with SCSU converting at the 17:35 mark of the period to increase its lead to 2-0. Peart threaded the needle to find fifth-year forward Zach Okabe (Okotoks, Alberta) in front of the net who the RedHawk goaltender blocker side for the score.
The two teams traded goals in the second period, first with Miami at the 2:23 mark to make the score 2-1 followed by fifth-year defenseman Dylan Anhorn's (Calgary, Alberta) scored at the 13:18 mark. The Miettinen brothers teamed up to tally assists for Anhorn's goal with freshman forward Verner Miettinen (Espoo, Finland) feeding Anhorn near the blue line which started a give-and-go play with senior forward Veeti Miettinen (Espoo, Finland) on a drive to the net. The older Miettinen fed Anhorn perfectly in the slot, who one-timed a slap shot right past the RedHawk goalie for a score and 3-1 lead.
In the third period, Miami scored 13 seconds into the last frame, but SCSU won't wait long to respond and put away the RedHawks for good. First, freshman forward Barrett Hall (Apple Valley, Minn.) made a spinning shot from the high slot to surprise Miami's goalie for a score at the 3:27 mark of the period. Then, 50 seconds later on a delayed penalty, freshman defenseman Tynan Ewart (Duncan, British Columbia) played the puck down the boards on the left side of the ice and got behind the defense. Once there, Ewart threaded a pass to the weakside to sophomore defenseman Cooper Wylie's (Stillwater, Minn.) stick, who had a wide open net for SCSU's fifth goal of the night.
