Foley records 16-kill, 14-dig double-double while Thompson adds 11 kills on .526 hitting in her Husky debut
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – No. 10 St. Cloud State Volleyball (0-1, 0-0 NSIC) dropped its debut match of the 2024 season in straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-21) to No. 21 Cal Poly Pomona on Friday afternoon at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino, Calif. Fifth-year outside hitter Kenzie Foley (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) led the Huskies with a 16-kill, 14-dig double double while redshirt junior middle blocker Ella Thompson (Lakeville, Minn.) produced 11 kills on .526 hitting in her SCSU debut.
St. Cloud State outkilled the Broncos (1-0, 0-0 CCAA) 45-39, but were hampered by errors, posting 36 while CPP only committed 14. Cal Poly Pomona also dominated the Huskies at the net, totaling 11 blocks, to SCSU's 5.
QUOTABLE – St. Cloud State head coach Chad Braegelmann
"We played a very experienced and talented team that was fantastic defensively and really limited their errors. We outkilled them offensively but gave away too many points. They served us tough and got us out of system - we were much better in the third set. We learned a lot today and we still have to get better defensively - but that is why we play top teams."
