Cold Shooting Hurts Huskies in 58-66 Loss to Minnesota Duluth

St. Cloud State shoots 3/18 from three
Duluth, Minn.- St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (10-8, 6-4 NSIC) were defeated 58-66 against Minnesota Duluth Saturday afternoon. Six minutes into the game, the teams would be tied 10-10 in what was a back-and-forth start. The Bulldogs started to take control of the game as they found their offensive groove with a 17-5 run over the next eight minutes. The Huskies were able to respond to that run as a 7-0 run brought them back within five points with 5:49 left in the half. The Bulldog stopped the bleeding with a jumper by Joshua Brown, but St. Cloud State maintained their momentum as a layup by Luke Winkel tied the game at 29. UMD ended the half on a high note as Noah Paulson finished a buzzer beating layup as St. Cloud State trailed 31-33 at the break. The second half started tight as neither team held a lead bigger than one possession for the first seven minutes. UMD began to take control of the game after a tip-in and-one by Austin Andrews. He converted the and-one and from that point Duluth went on a 7-1 run to lead 54-44 with 8:32 left in the game. The Bulldogs held that lead over the next four minutes before the Huskies started to make a late comeback. Trailing 61-48 with 4:40 left in the game, St. Cloud State used a 7-0 with all seven points coming from the free throw line as UMD led 61-55 with 2:37 left in the game. The teams traded defensive stops over the next minute and a half before the Bulldogs pushed the lead back up to eight after a pair of free throws with 1:06 left. Winkel finished a layup to respond and get the lead back down to six. The Huskies ultimately ran out of time as Duluth put the game away at the free throw line as they would go on to win 66-58. St. Cloud State shot 35% from the field and 16% from beyond the arc.
