St. Cloud State Cross Country Heads to Wisconsin for First Out of State Meet of 2025

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Cross Country returns to action with its second 6k of the season and first meet outside Minnesota on Friday morning. The Blugold Invitational, hosted by Wis.-Eau Claire at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wisconsin, is set to begin at 10:15 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
St. Cloud State Cross Country competed in its first 6k of the 2025 season on September 19 at the 39^th annual Roy Griak Invitational at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Minneapolis. The Huskies competed in the Suzy Wilson Women's Maroon Race which featured runners from DII and DIII schools.

Senior Hannah Little (Grimes, Iowa) led the SCSU pack, running 27:18.5 to finish 169^th. Behind Little were two freshmen who made their collegiate 6k debut - Campbell Slattery (Big Lake, Minn) was second on the Huskies after running 27:27.4 (176^th) and Jocie Wheeler (Annandale, Minn.) was third on the team, crossing the line in 27:41.3 (190^th). Sophomore Abbygail Nunez (South St. Paul, Minn.) made her season debut and was fourth on the team in 27:51.3 (198^th).

The team's lone senior, Hannah Little (Grimes, Iowa) was honored prior to the season opening meet for her contributions to the program over the last three years.

SEASON PREVIEW
St. Cloud State Cross Country was selected to finish t-12^th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Preseason Coaches' Poll. Additionally, sophomore Abbygail Nunez (South St. Paul, Minn.) was named the preseason Athlete to Watch by the NSIC.

"This year's team brings a steady, hardworking approach to everything they do," said third-year head coach Gabrielle Brown. "They show up with the right attitude, take care of the details, and are committed to getting better every day."

The roster is comprised of one senior – Hannah Little (Grimes, Iowa), two sophomores – MerriAnna Johnson (Osceola, Wis.) and Nunez and three freshmen – Soniya Baruwal, Campbell Slattery (Big Lake, Minn), and Jocie Wheeler (Annandale, Minn.).

"Abby is the kind of athlete every coach hopes to have—hardworking, dependable, and always leading by example," said Brown. "She shows up every day ready to put in the work and lift up those around her. Abby's consistency and quiet confidence make her someone our whole team looks up to."
