No. 10/11 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Drops Series Opener to No. 5 Minnesota Duluth

Huskies fall to UMD 5-3, drops fourth straight game
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 10/11 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (4-7-0, 1-6-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) fell in its series opener against No. 5 Minnesota Duluth on Friday afternoon at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
The Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game when redshirt junior forward Laura Zimmermann (Ringgenberg, Switzerland) put the puck in the back of the net after collecting a rebound in the slot. UMD (7-4-0, 3-4-0 WCHA) responded with three unanswered goals including two in the final 46 seconds of the first period.

SCSU cut its deficit to two early in the second period when graduate defender Grace Wolfe (Owatonna, Minn.) scored a goal from outside the right circle after getting a pair of deflections off UMD sticks. The Bulldogs regained its three-goal lead later in the period, taking a 4-2 advantage into the second intermission.
St. Cloud State brought itself within one goal again just 1:02 into the third period after freshman forward Raili Mustonen (Kalajoki, Finland) finished off her own rebound in front of the net, but UMD would once again score to extend its lead back to three, bringing the game to its final score, 5-3.
TOP HUSKIES
- Zimmermann scored the Huskies first goal and was named the game's second star.
- Wolfe scored the second SCSU goal.
- Mustonen scored the third and final Husky goal.
- SCSU moves to 15-93-12 all-time against Minnesota Duluth and 10-37-7 all-time against the Bulldogs in St. Cloud. UMD has won the last six matchups of the teams.
- The Huskies moved to 2-7-0 this season against teams ranked/receiving votes and 3-3-0 in home games.
- SCSU went 3-for-4 on the penalty kill and 0-for-2 on the power play. For the season, SCSU is 27-for-37 (73.0%) on the penalty kill and 4-for-31 on the power play (12.9%).
- The Huskies outshot UMD, 34-26. The Bulldogs won 55.4% of the faceoffs and out blocked the Huskies, 13-11.
- SCSU blocked 11+ shots for the fifth time this season.
- Zimmermann notched her third goal of the season, her fifth point of the season and the 30th point of her career.
- Wolfe's goal was her 45th career point.
- Mustonen scored her second career goal.
- Senior forward Avery Farrell (Rogers, Minn.) and junior forward Payton Holloway (Tomah, Wis.) each tallied their fifth assist of the season.
- Redshirt sophomore Paige Hoogendam (Ajax, Ontario) made a career-high 17 saves in two periods of relief.
