Huskies look to end five-game skid against UMD
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 10/11 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (4-6-0, 1-5-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) returns to St. Cloud to host No. 5 Minnesota Duluth (6-4-0, 2-4-0 WCHA) this weekend. Puck drops from the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center are scheduled for 2 p.m. (Friday) and 1 p.m. (Saturday).

Both games will be broadcast on Big Ten Plus (note – a paid subscription is required) with radio coverage on 97.5 FM RadioX. Nick Maxson will have the call on B1G+, while KVSC talent Brian Moos (play-by-play) and Luke Paider (color – Friday only) will be on the radio broadcast. SERIES HISTORY
SCSU trails the all-time series against the Bulldogs, 15-92-12, including an 0-5-0 mark in the last five games and an 0-8-2 mark in the last 10 meetings. The Huskies are 10-36-7 all time against UMD in St. Cloud and last season, SCSU went 0-5-1 with a shootout loss against Minnesota Duluth.
 
LET'S GO POLLING
The Huskies moved back into the top 10 of the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Poll (No. 10) and remained at No. 11 in the USA Hockey Poll. St. Cloud State is one of six WCHA programs featured in the rankings, with one additional club receiving votes. Minnesota Duluth enters the series ranked No. 5 in both polls.
 
FORMER DOGS
Graduate goaltender Jojo Chobak (Chicago, Ill.) and junior forward Payton Holloway (Tomah, Wis.) both transferred in from UMD. Chobak played for the Bulldogs from 2020-22 and compiled a 10-4-1 record with three shutouts, a 1.88 GAA and a .926 SV% over 20 appearances/12 starts. Holloway was at UMD from 2023-25 and posted three points on one goal and two assists with a +1 mark in 60 games.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Then-No. 11 SCSU was swept by No. 2 Ohio State last weekend at the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus, Ohio. The Huskies fell 5-1 in game one and dropped the series finale 4-2.

WCHA WEEKLY HONORS
Junior forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) was the most recent Husky to earn Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) weekly honors after being tabbed as the league's Forward of the Week on Oct. 20. She is the third Husky to win WCHA weekly honors this season, following freshman forward Maria Mikaelyan (Moscow, Russia) who earned Rookie of the Week honors on Oct. 13 and sophomore defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland), who was named Defender of the Week on Sept. 22.
 
2025-26 WCHA WEEKLY HONORS
Defender of the Week
Graduate student goaltender Jojo Chobak (Chicago, Ill.) is back for her final year of collegiate eligibility after a redshirt season in 2024-25. In her first start between the pipes in since March 2, 2024 (567 days) on Sept. 20, she picked up right where she left of in 2023-24, earning her 10th career shutout as a Huskies to tie former teammate Sanni Ahola (2020-25) for the most career shutouts in program history.
 
This summer, Chobak was invited to the USA Hockey National Goaltender Camp and National Festival and was a U.S. Collegiate Select Team selection. In 2023-24, she went 7-11-1 over 17 starts and established new program records for single season save percentage (.939) and goals against average (1.64) while recording four shutouts. Chobak currently owns seven season top 10 marks and four career top 10 spots in the record book. She is a two-time WCHA All-Academic Team member and a two-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete. In her four-year career, she owns a 28-27-3 record with a 2.11 GAA, a .926 SV% and 13 shutouts over 56 starts/66 appearances.
 
NEW LEADER OF THE PACK
Former assistant coach, Mira Jalosuo (MEER-ah YAH-loh-SUE-oh) was named the seventh head coach of the St. Cloud State Women's Hockey team on June 27, 2025. She is just the second woman to lead the Huskies during the program's 27-year history, following in the footsteps of Kerry Brodt Wethington, who was the programs first head coach from 1998-99 to 2001-02.
 
Jalosuo picked up her first win as the Huskies bench boss in her first game, a 5-0 win over Lindenwood (Mo.) on September 19. She earned her first series sweep the next day after SCSU took down the Lions 5-0 for the second straight game. It was the first time in program history that a team posted back-to-back shutouts to open a season and the fourth season in a row that the Huskies opened their season with a series sweep.
 
A highly decorated member of Finland's National Team, the two-time Olympian and five-time World Championships Bronze medalist spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Frost (formerly PWHL Minnesota), helping the franchise win back-to-back PWHL Walter Cups in each of the first two seasons of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL).

- SCSU moved to 32-65-12 all-time against Ohio State and 15-30-8 all-time against the Buckeyes in Columbus.
- The Huskies moved to 2-5-0 this season against teams ranked/receiving votes and 1-3-0 in away games.
- SCSU went 0-for-1 on the penalty kill and 0-for-4 on the power play. For the season, SCSU is 20-for-27 (74.1%) on the penalty kill and 4-for-26 on the power play (15.4%).
- OSU outshot the Huskies, 29-12 and won 72.7% of the faceoffs and SCSU out blocked the Buckeyes, 8-6.
- Freshman forward Maria Mikaelyan (Moscow, Russia) scored the Huskies lone goal and led the Huskies in shots on goal, with six. The goal was her fifth of the season, breaking her tie with junior forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) for the team lead.
- Senior forward Avery Farrell (Rogers, Minn.) was credited with the primary assist on the goal. The assist was her fourth of the season which is tied for fourth on the team and the 30th of her career. Farrell now has five points this season.
- Junior forward Payton Holloway (Tomah, Wis.) provided the secondary assist on the goal. The assist was her fourth of the season which is tied for fourth on the team. Holloway now has five points this season.
- Freshman defender Sydney Lamb (Lombard, Ill.) blocked a career-high three shots.
- Graduate goaltender Jojo Chobak (Chicago, Ill.) made a season-high 35 saves and surpassed 1,500 saves for her career.
- SCSU moved to 32-66-12 all-time against Ohio State and 15-31-8 all-time against the Buckeyes in Columbus.
- The Huskies moved to 2-6-0 this season against teams ranked/receiving votes and 1-4-0 in away games.
- SCSU went 4-for-6 on the penalty kill and 0-for-3 on the power play. For the season, SCSU is 24-for-33 (72.7%) on the penalty kill and 4-for-29 on the power play (13.8%).

- Junior forward Sidney Jackel (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and graduate defender Grace Wolfe (Owatonna, Minn.) earned assists on Labbé's goal. Wolfe also blocked three shots and was +2.
- Jackel tallied her fifth point of the season.
- Wolfe's assist was her sixth of the season and her seventh point, both of which are tied for the most on the team. She blocked 3+ shots for the second time this season.
- Graduate goaltender Jojo Chobak (Chicago, Ill.) made 40 saves and only allowed two even strength goals. Her 40 saves were a new season high.
- Freshman forwards Raili Mustonen (Kalajoki, Finland) and Reese Strauts (Brandon, Wis.) skated to a career best +1 mark.
