
No. 8 St. Cloud State Wrestling Takes Four Titles at Yellowjacket Open

12 Huskies place top three
Rochester, Minn. – No. 8 St. Cloud State Wrestling competed in the Yellowjacket Open Saturday morning as they traveled to Rochester, Minn. The Huskies claimed four titles with 12 Huskies finishing top three, and 19 Huskies placing.
At 165, redshirt junior Gabriel Smith captured four bonus point victories on his way to a title with two falls and two tech falls. After receiving a bye in round 1, Smith came away with a pin in one minute and 59 seconds against Brady Brewick of Wisconsin Eau-Claire. He then beat Jase Salin 17-1 in the quarterfinals and Ryland Schneider by fall (5:00) to advance to the championship match. Smith faced off against Aston Meister of Wisconsin-La Crosse where he won by tech fall with a score of 20-4 to take the title.
At 184, redshirt freshman Dominic Mann and freshman Brenden Heying each took Co-1st. Mann won his first two bouts by fall in one minute and 15 seconds and then captured a pair of decision victories to reach the championship match. Heying won by tech fall in his first two bouts and then pinned Sedeeq AlObaidi of Wisconsin-La Crosse in five minutes to reach the semifinals. He then won his third bout by tech fall to reach the championship match. The two teammates did not wrestle each other.
Redshirt sophomore Macray Klohs took the final title for the Huskies at 197. Klohs won his first bout by fall as he pinned Owen Barton of Iowa Central Community College in three minutes and 18 seconds. A pair of decision victories, one of which by tiebreaker, propelled Klohs to the championship match. He faced off against Everett McClelland where he won 4-2 to come away victorious.
