
Huskies go Wire-to-Wire with Strong Defensive Performance in 34 Point Win Over Winona State

SCSU holds Warriors to 32.1% from the field in 84-50 win
St. Cloud, MN. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (5-3, 3-0 NSIC) won their fourth straight game as they defeated Winona State 84-50 Saturday afternoon. The Huskies led the entirety of the game as they captured an 84-50 win behind a strong defensive performance.
St. Cloud State opened up the game by holding Winona State to only one field goal in nearly eight minutes of action as they held a 12-3 advantage. The Huskies steadily held that lead until they commenced on a 10-0 run to break the game open as they now led 29-11. To cap off the run, Wyatt Hawks blocked a jumper by Tyler Borowski as Luke Winkel corralled the rebound. The duo ran the floor with the advantage as Winkel passed it up to Hawks who drew the lone defender and dumped it back to Winkel who finished the fast break and forced a Winona State timeout. St. Cloud State kept it rolling as they went into the halftime break up 40-19 as they held the Warriors to 20.7% from the field.
Coming out of the break, WSU was rejuvenated as a quick 13-4 run cut the lead down to 12 and led to a timeout by SCSU. St. Cloud State settled in out of the timeout slowly started to build their lead back up. After a slot three by Bob Griechen, Nate Dahl jumped a passing lane for a steal and then jammed home a breakaway dunk as SCSU now commandingly led by 24 points with 6:27 remaining in the game. The Huskies held firm on their lead as ultimately went on to win 84-50 with their biggest lead being 36 points. St. Cloud State produced another exceptional defensive outing as they held Winona State to 32.1% from the field, 19% from three, and forced 20 turnovers for 26 points.
Top Huskies
- Luke Winkel was the game's leading scorer as he tallied 19 points (6/11) and made all seven of his free throws. Winkel tacked on three rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
- Bob Griechen scored an efficient 16 points (7/12) off the bench to go with seven rebounds and two steals. This was Griechen's career-high in scoring and his third game scoring 14+ points this season.
- Nate Dahl was the final Husky to score in double figures as he notched 13 points on 4/7 shooting. Dahl made all four of his free throws and nabbed a steal.

- St. Cloud State is now 98-47 all-time against Winona State.
- The Huskies led the game in field goal percentage (44.1-32.1), three-pointers made (7-4), free throws made (25-10), rebounds (42-34), offensive rebounds (13-11), assists (12-7), steals (9-3), blocks (3-0), points off turnovers (26-6), points in the paint (38-28), fast break points (13-7), and bench points (34-22)
- Lee Marks III registered seven points, six rebounds, and four stocks. This was his third multi-steal game of the season.
- Wyatt Hawks scored five points and grabbed eight rebounds. He also dished out three assists and blocked a shot while making five of his six free throw attempts. This was Hawks' sixth game with 8+ rebounds.
- Azayah Washington totaled eight points and three rebounds off the bench. Washington cashed two threes which made it his second multi-three game this season.
- Anish Ramlall notched six points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. This was Ramlall's third multi-steal game of the season.
- Kynan Philippe mounted four points and rebounds.
- Nathan Bunkosky splashed one of his two threes and recorded a steal.
