SCSU scores two third period goals to snap six-game losing streak
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (11-13-1, 4-10-1 NCHC) snapped its six-game losing streak in a 3-3 and shootout loss to No. 16/17 North Dakota (12-10-2, 7-5-1 NCHC) on Friday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. The Huskies trailed 3-1 heading into the third period before scoring twice in the final frame to force overtime.

For the first time since Dec. 29, the Huskies scored the first goal of the game when sophomore forward Ethan AuCoin (Calgary, Alberta) caused a UND turnover at the blue line in the defensive zone and created a 2-on-1 breakaway the other way. AuCoin moved down the left faceoff dot and then fired a wrist shot top shelf far side to beat the Fighting Hawk goaltender.

Despite the fast start, UND responded by scoring three consecutive goals and controlling play for the majority of the first two periods. North Dakota outshot the Huskies 29-12 in the game's first 40 minutes and took a 3-1 lead at the 13:46 of the middle frame on Cameron Berg's second goal of the game.

The Huskies comeback began nearly midway through the third period when AuCoin scored his second goal of the game, netting a shot through the five-hole on a backside play after sophomore forward Tyson Gross (Calgary, Alberta) intercepted a clearance pass by UND. Gross was on the boards and made a pass-ice pass to the weakside where AuCoin was all alone to find the back of the net again and make the score 3-2. SCSU then tied the game at the 16:08 mark on a rush play where sophomore forward Daimon Gardner's (Eagle Lake, Ontario) shot from outside the right dot was deflected by sophomore forward Barrett Hall (Apple Valley, Minn.) and into the back of the net for the equalizer.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the overtime period, forcing a tie before North Dakota won in a shootout, 2-1.
