Eleven Huskies recognized for their excellence in the classroom
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Hockey had 11 student athletes named as 2024-25 Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Scholar-Athlete Award winners, as announced by the conference office on Thursday. Eleven is the most the Scholar-Athletes the Huskies have had since the 2018-19 team had 13.
To be eligible for the WCHA Scholar Athlete Award, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in their previous two semesters or three quarters and have achieved at least sophomore status in their academic careers. The WCHA Scholar-Athletes are selected with the help of the Faculty Athletic Representatives from each of the member institutions. In total, 91 student-athletes were named to the 2024-25 WCHA All-Academic Team, presented by Sterling Trophy. SCSU was one of four teams with 11-plus award winners.
The Huskies 11 award winners were graduate forwards Emma Gentry (Alpena, Mich.) and Avery Myers (Fargo, N.D.), fifth year goaltender Jojo Chobak (Chicago, Ill.), senior defenders Taylor Larson (Nisswa, Minn.) and Grace Wolfe (Owatonna, Minn.), junior defender Regan Bulger (Yellowknife, Northwest Territories), junior forwards Avery Farrell (Rogers, Minn.) and Svenja Voigt (Cologne, Germany), sophomore defender Sydney Bryant (Traverse City, Mich.) and sophomore forwards Greta Henderson (Regina, Saskatchewan) and Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec).
Larson (twice with SCSU, once with Bemidji State) is the lone three-time award winner, while Bulger, Chobak, Myers, Voigt and Wolfe earned the award for the second time in their career, while Bryant, Farrell, Gentry, Henderson and Sauriol were all first-time award winners.
Last weekend, the Huskies split its home-and-home series against No. 3 Minnesota, winning 4-3 on Friday in Minneapolis before falling 2-1 in St. Cloud on Saturday. Friday's win at Ridder Arena marked the first ever SCSU road win against the Gophers. Friday's win also made history for head coach Brian Idalski, who became just the second coach in program history to amass 50 wins and the first to do so in three seasons or less. He also became the first coach in program history to beat Minnesota on the road and is just the second coach to post three consecutive 15+ win seasons.
The Huskies travel to Columbus, Ohio to play No. 2 Ohio State (23-6-3, 17-6-3 WCHA) in their final regular season series on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22. Puck drops are slated for 5 p.m. CT and 2 p.m. CT respectively from the OSU Ice Rink. Links to each coverage option will be available on the SCSU Women's Hockey schedule page.
