Five with ties to the Huskies win bronze medal for Finland
ČESKÉ BUDĚJOVICE, Czechia – Five with ties to St. Cloud State Women's Hockey earned a bronze medal for Team Finland at the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's World Championship. The tournament was held from April 9-20 at Budvar Arena in České Budějovice, Czechia.

FINLAND
The largest contingent of Huskies – three current players and two alumnae, suited up for Team Finland and won the bronze medal. Freshman goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland), sophomore forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) and freshman defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) were joined by goaltender Sanni Ahola (Helsinki, Finland), who played for the Huskies from 2020-25 and former alternate captain, forward Jenniina Nylund (Pietarsaari, Finland) who wore the red and black from 2018-23. Nylund tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (one), was one of eight Finns to record 3+ points, ranked tied for second in goals (two) and she went 34-and-36 on the dot.
Nylund and Sundelin are now each three-time bronze medalists after also taking third in 2021 and 2024, while Ahola and Yrjölä eached earned their second consecutive third place finish after also earning the bronze in 2024. It is the first world championship medal for Kyrrkö.

Junior forward Svenja Voigt (Cologne, Germany) and former alternate captain, forward Laura Kluge (Berlin, Germany) who wore a Huskies sweater from 2017-21 played for Team Germany. Kluge was named an alternate captain and her four points (1g/3a) led the team while Voigt's two assists tied for the second most on the team. Germany was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
