Defense Shines in Huskies 71-57 Win over Minot State

SCSU holds Beavers to 36% shooting
Minot, N.D. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (10-5, 7-2 NSIC) stifled defensively in their 71-57 win against Minot State Friday evening. SCSU held the MSU to 36% shooting the field and 0% from three.
Early on, the physicality and prowess of the Huskies defense was on full display as they held Minot State to one made field goal in the first seven minutes of play as they led 12-4. Bob Griechen had it going early as he scored 11 of the first 20 points for SCSU. With Griechen's spark off the bench, SCSU led 20-12 with 6:30 left in the half. St. Cloud State held firm on their lead as they went into the break with a 31-21 lead.
Out of halftime, the Huskies built their lead up to 15 points with a triple from Kynan Philippe and then a floater by Luke Winkel. St. Cloud State held a steady lead for most of the game and were aggressive getting to the basket and drawing fouls to slow the pace and halt any momentum the Beavers generated. SCSU got to the line 24 times in the second half and emphasized the free in free throw with 21 makes on those attempts. Minot State got as close as eight points on multiple occasions but never had the run to truly break through. The Huskies ultimately went on to 71-57 in their first game against an NSIC North opponent this season.

- Bob Griechen was a catalyst off the bench as he scored a career-high 20 points on an efficient 7/12 shooting. Griechen also cashed three threes and grabbed two rebounds. The three threes were also a career-high. This was Griechen's fifth game scoring 10+ points this season.
- Luke Winkel tallied 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Winkel made eight on his nine free throw attempts. This was his third game this season grabbing 6+ rebounds.
- Wyatt Hawks was the final Husky to score in double figures with 12 points on 4/5 shooting. Hawks grabbed five boards, cashed two threes, and dished two assists. This was his second multi-three game of the year.

- The Huskies led the game in three-pointers made (7-0), rebounds (40-31), offensive rebounds (15-7), assists (9-3), steals (6-5), second chance points (19-6), fast break points (7-4), and bench points (24-12).
- Kynan Philippe scored nine points and corralled three rebounds. Philippe knocked in two threes for his sixth multi-three game this season.
- Nate Dahl and Lee Marks III each totaled six points and five rebounds. Dahl added three assists and four steals while Marks III nabbed two steals of his own.
