St. Cloud State Men’s Golf tied for 7th place at Maverick Fall Brawl

HUDSON, Wis. – St. Cloud State Golf opened the 2026 season, completing round 1 of the Maverick Fall Brawl hosted by Minnesota State-Mankato and Concordia-St. Paul. The men's team currently sits tied for fifth, while the three individuals competing for the women's team battled the conditions to finish their round.

Today was the first round of a 36-hole two-day event at Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson, WI.

The Husky men's golf team was led by Freshman, Owen Hoehn who finished -2 in his last eight holes to shoot a +3 round of 74 which puts him in a tie for 8th place. Peyton Carr sits in a tie for 25th as he birdied his last to shoot 77 (+6), Will Spence carded two birdies, shooting 78 (+7), putting himself in a tie for 29th, Cam Kaye rounded out the counting scores with an 80 (+9), and Carter Whitworth made an eagle on the par 5 fifth to shoot 84 (+13).

The Husky women's team is playing three individuals this weekend. Leading the charge was Freshman Emma Forsberg, who finished +32 (103). Rounding out the Huskies were Alyssa Scherping (+51) and Emma Ryan (+75).

Scouting the Golf Course

Troy Burne plays at 6,978 yards with a 74.5/142 course rating/slope. Troy Burne Golf Club opened for play in June 1999. Carefully sculpted out of 420 acres of rolling St. Croix Valley hills, the course features over 120 bunkers protecting generous bent grass fairways and stadium greens. Burne, the Scottish term for creek, is fitting as water comes into play on eight holes. Amber prairie grasses cover the hillsides along many holes, providing vivid contrast to the emerald fairways and roughs.
