Andy Rannells

Andy Rannells is in his first season with St. Cloud State after being hired as the team’s hockey equipment manager ahead of the 2024-25 season. Rannells brings nearly 20 years of experience in the hockey equipment industry and has held positions in the NHL, AHL and NCAA. He serves as the director of equipment operations for the men’s hockey team while assisting the women’s hockey team and oversees the entire hockey equipment room staff. His duties include equipment procurement, locker room organization for both home and away games, skate sharpening and complete maintenance of the team’s equipment. He also works hand-in-hand with CCM to meet the team’s equipment and apparel needs.
Prior to SCSU, Rannells spent five seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL, holding the position of Equipment Manager. The Rannells made one NHL Stanley Cup playoff appearance (2020) with Rannells on staff and also competed in the 2019 Global Series in Czech Republic and a 2021 NHL Outdoor game in Lake Tahoe.
Prior to his time in the NHL, Rannells spent five seasons as the Head Equipment Manager with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the Flyers. In Lehigh, he helped the Phantoms host the 2017 AHL All Star Game and was part of two AHL Calder Cup playoff runs, including the longest game in AHL history in 2018.
Rannells was the Head Equipment Manager at NCHC counterpart North Dakota from 2010-14, where the Fighting Hawks captured three conference championships, advanced to four NCAA Tournaments and two NCAA Frozen Fours with Rannells on staff. Prior to his time in Grand Forks, Rannells spent the 2009-10 season with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program as an Assistant Equipment Manager.
Rannells is a 2009 graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth where he received his bachelor’s degree in history and spent four seasons as a student equipment manager for the men’s and women’s hockey team. A native of Apple Valley, Minn., Rannells spent four seasons as a student equipment manager for the Eastview High School Boy's Hockey team.
